Abuja, May 2 (Xinhua) -- Nigerian officials confirmed on the 2nd that a three-story building in Lagos State in southwestern Nigeria collapsed on the evening of the 1st, causing at least 8 deaths, and an unknown number of people trapped in the rubble.

Ibrahim Farinroyer, head of the southwestern district of the National Emergency Management Agency of Nepal, said in a telephone interview with Xinhua News Agency that the collapsed building is located in the Onibe district of Lagos State, rescue workers have rescued 23 people from the scene of the accident, rescued people are receiving treatment at local hospitals, and the remains of 8 victims have been found in the rubble.

Farinroyer said people are still trapped in the rubble, rescue work is still underway, and relevant departments have begun to investigate the cause of the accident.
