Legend has it that during the Song Dynasty, a family surnamed Sheep lived in the mountain pass to the west of the village. Later, the surname Zheng moved in and slowly became a Wang clan, in order to thank the original residents of the Yang family, the village was named Yang'ao Village, which later evolved into Yan'ao Village, and is now renamed Yan'ao Village.
The origin of the village name is always legendary, true and false, but it penetrates the simple feelings of the people who do not forget the original. The "Xianju County Gazetteer" has another explanation: the ancestral residence of Yang surname, located in the mountains, so called Yang Ao. After the Yang surname gradually disappeared, it evolved into 垟岙. It is now a village under the jurisdiction of Tianshi Town.
The Xianju Jiaxun records that the Zheng clan of Xianju honored Zheng Jian of the Tang Dynasty as the ancestor, and when his descendants moved from Yongjia to Xianju, they were originally a family with the Pan family, and after arriving at Xianju, they suffered together. For thousands of years, the two surnames have always been blessed and enjoyed the same difficulties, which is probably fate.
The ancient buildings in the village, the best preserved one is the Chengxian Academy.
According to Teacher Zheng, the administrator of the college and the current cultural researcher of the Cultural and Historical Committee of the Xianju Political Consultative Conference, teacher Zheng Changlai warmly received us, according to Teacher Zheng, Chengxian College was originally built in 1834, has a history of nearly 200 years, the original site is located in Shuikou Mountain, the name comes from the founder's concept of "May scholars have aspiring sages, inherit the ancestors of Deze". In recent years, the academy has been revived in the "Xiakan" houses, and has become the main front for the dissemination of the culture of the sages, especially the culture of rock paintings.

Talking about rock paintings, Teacher Zheng came with a mouth, from the astronomical records of the ancients who stood up to measure movies and watch the time, to "see the dragon in the field, the civilization under the world" and to the modern farming culture, spanning tens of thousands of years, you can find the imprint of the development of human civilization. Although we, the illiterate people of petroglyphs, seem to understand it, we still feel the strong charm of the rock art history class.
After the theory class, Mr. Zheng explained in detail the ancient bird worship and the unity of heaven and man in front of a simple rock painting rubbing, which once again shocked our simple thinking mode.
In Mr. Zheng Changlai's studio, we visited the stone tools he made with his bare hands. To be honest, we can't believe that we can't actually make these soulful objects in a purely manual way without borrowing any molds.

Chengxian Academy also displays photos and relics of Zheng Wanzhi, a martyr who participated in the Xinhai Revolution, a back knife.
Zheng Wanzhi was a native of The Village of Yanyuan and participated in the Battles of the White Bamboo Uprising and the Restoration of Nanjing. Yuan Shikai claimed to be empress, raised the banner of anti-Yuan, and repeatedly defeated the county garrison in the area from Guikeng to Changtang, which was appreciated by Dr. Sun Yat-sen. On July 25, 1914, in the encounter of XiguoYuan, Zheng Wanzhi was wounded by a gun, and it is said that the blood flowed all the way to Guanshan, and finally died of his injuries.
Walking out of Chengxian Academy, the new houses in the village have been seriously damaged except for the façade. There have been several liberal arts scholars and martial arts scholars in the village, and I don't know which ancestor's ancient residence this is?
The elders in the village said that in addition to the ancient buildings, the "Gutan Temple" that is now lost because of the construction of the Gutan Reservoir was also founded by their ancestors and managed until the Republic of China period. ChaXian Zhi, Gutan Temple was originally named Xinghua Temple, built in the eighth year of Song Kaibao (975), and the two surnames of Zhao Zheng in the Song Dynasty were jointly built, which should be true.
On the hill next to the village, the old man said that there was also an ancient tomb built in an unknown era, all of which was built of stone. Due to the number of ladies in the company, the plan to visit the tomb had to be shelved.
