Recently, the staff of the Baoshan Management and Protection Bureau of Gaoligong mountain national nature reserve in Yunnan Province, The staff of the Zhao Kang Pipe and Protection Station found the national first-class protected plant leek in the protection and monitoring of the extremely small population.
After identification, the water leeks found were initially determined to be Yungui leeks, with a total area of more than 10 square meters and a number of about 500-700 plants. Yungui water leeks are only found in Guizhou and Yunnan, while yunnan is currently only found in Gaoligong Mountain.
According to reports, Yungui water leeks were first found in the Black Dragon Pond in Kunming, and they have now disappeared. The leeks found in Gaoligong Mountain this time have the lowest population of 14 plants and the largest number of more than 500 plants.
Water leeks are endemic to China and are endangered aquatic ferns that grow mainly on inaccessible shallow pond swamps, pond edges and ravines on silt soil, and are relict plants that have survived from Quaternary glaciers. Because of its ancient origins, it has existed longer than the giant panda, so it is also known as the giant panda of the plant kingdom. Leeks are of great value for studying the phylogeny of plants and the fauna origins of East Asian plants.
