Childhood memories, nostalgic times...

The yard of the hometown

Text/Far away

I believe that most of the post-60s and post-70s are not unfamiliar with this word. In the Jiaodong area, it is also called a wheat field, and in the southern region, it is called a grain removal field. The names may vary from place to place, but they all mean the same place, the wide field used in the countryside to thresh grain harvested in season.

Wheat is the main food crop in the homeland. So when it comes to the wheat harvest season, the yard in the village becomes a boiling ocean.

When I was a child, there were very few tractors, so there were many means of transporting harvested wheat to the yard. There are tractors, horse-drawn carriages, rack cars, etc. Each household threshed the wheat sequentially according to the order of first-come, first-served. Due to the inefficiency of the threshing machine at that time, the yard would be filled with stacks of wheat, and the threshing machine would run all night. Relatives and friends, neighbors will help each other to fight the wheat field, the order is busy but not chaotic, and the yard is a hot scene. Because the dust in the yard is very large, everyone in the wheat field is a big face. Sweat-soaked faces were written with the joy of the harvest.

The courtyard recorded unforgettable moments, both bitter and sweet. The courtyard has recorded that unforgettable era.

After the wheat field is finished, the yard is filled with piles of wheat straw. Every day, flocks of sparrows come to the courtyard to look for the grains of wheat left on the ground, and chickens, ducks and geese also roam here, enjoying this delicious feast together, and this place has become a paradise for animals.

It's a playground for kids. Every afternoon after school, the children will meet their friends to play here. Various games such as hide-and-seek, catch secret agents, jump rope, marbles and so on are staged here. Singing and laughter turned this place into an ocean of joy.

At night, crickets sing luminous songs and fireflies dance for good times. "The moon is on the willow tip, and the man is about after dusk." Lovers will appear dating in the courtyard...

With the cultivation and promotion of fruit trees and other reasons, there is almost no wheat grown in the village now. The courtyard slowly withdrew from the stage of history and almost disappeared.

Whenever I see it, it is like seeing an old friend I have not met for a long time and want to tell it my heart. Whenever I think of it, there is always an emotion in my heart that rises and falls like a wheat wave. Whenever I think of it, I can always feel the fragrance of grain. It and that period of time in the heart are like the aging of the cellar, and it is fragrant for a long time.
