Qualcomm released Q2 financial report: profit soared 67%
In the early hours of this morning, Qualcomm released its financial results for the second fiscal quarter of fiscal 2022. According to the report, Qualcomm's fiscal second-quarter revenue was $11.164 billion, up 41% from $7.935 billion in the same period last year, and net profit was $2.934 billion, up 67% from $1.762 billion in the same period last year.
Qualcomm's revenue from equipment and services for the fiscal second quarter was $9,417 million, compared to $6,239 million in the year-ago quarter, and revenue from licensing was $1,747 million, compared to $1,696 million in the year-ago quarter.
Handheld device revenue was $6,325 million, up 56% from $4,065 million in the year-ago quarter;
REVENUE from the RF front-end business was $1,160 million, up 28% from $903 million in the year-ago quarter;
Automotive revenue was $339 million, up 41 percent from $240 million in the year-ago quarter.
IoT business revenue was $1.724 billion, up 61% compared to $1.073 billion in the year-ago quarter.
Mobile phone chips remain one of Qualcomm's most important sources of revenue, and Qualcomm's Snapdragon 5G chips have also been welcomed in this fiscal quarter, and Qualcomm expects its mobile phone division to grow by more than 50% this fiscal year, driven by the growth of Samsung Electronics' flagship Galaxy mobile phone and some Chinese smartphone manufacturers.
CEO Amon said the company's chips account for three-quarters of Samsung's latest smartphone, the Galaxy S22, compared to 40 percent in the previous generation.
Laptops are about to go up in price
According to Digitimes, due to the rising cost of components, supply chain pressure, etc., notebook ODM and OEM manufacturers are considering price adjustments in the second half of the year, but the outside world is not expected to be very large.
This situation seems to run counter to the recent collapse in graphics card prices, and in fact, other PC components (memory, SSDs, etc.) are also facing downward pressure.
However, before the end of the first quarter, ODM/OEMs did consider reducing the price of notebooks, because the demand for home office and remote Internet access showed signs of weakening. And the data of the three-party agencies also shows that the PC has suffered a rare shipment decline in several years, and the industry even expects PC shipments to decrease by as much as 10% in 2022, but the plan has not changed quickly.
In addition, from the perspective of product configuration, whether the 13th generation Core and AMD Zen 4 can enter the notebook platform before the end of the year is still unknown, for now, the main configuration in 2022 will still be based on the 12th generation Core, AMD Ryzen™ 6000 (Zen3+), RTX 30 series graphics cards.
