Highly respected volunteers, "regimental leaders", "presidents"... In the month of the "epidemic" in Shanghai, Yang Huijuan, a Singaporean living in the first phase of Jinqiao Biyun Garden in Pudong New Area, constantly switched her roles to escort the health of community residents and the "vegetable basket". And she herself is also in this process, receiving the encouragement and touch of "distant relatives are not as good as close neighbors".

Be the "captain" and the "regimental leader"

On weekdays, Yang Huijuan is a full-time volunteer who is enthusiastic about public welfare and the founder of the "Yuk Angel" public welfare volunteer team, and this month she has become one of the most respected people in the community.

Clicking on Yang Huijuan's WeChat avatar, a woman wearing a "big white" protective suit, wearing a mask and gloves, full of confidence came into view.

Yang Huijuan's volunteer story of the community war "epidemic" began to be written two days before the first phase of Jinqiao Biyun Garden, where she was located, entered the closed management.

She remembers that it was the evening of March 26, when the community organized residents to do antigen tests for the first time.

Due to the suddenness of the incident and the lack of manpower, antigen test kits were distributed to nearly a thousand residents, and the staff of the community property contacted Yang Huijuan, who was enthusiastic about public welfare on weekdays. Time is tight and the task is heavy, and Yang Huijuan knows that she has to mobilize everyone's strength. "Luckily, everyone was very enthusiastic." In about 15 minutes, Yang Huijuan organized all the personnel, became a temporary "captain", and distributed the kits overnight.

After that, assisting the residents of the community organization to conduct nucleic acid or antigen testing in the morning, being responsible for scanning nucleic acid codes, and becoming the "regiment leader" in the afternoon, busy finding, purchasing and distributing reliable materials for neighbors, has become the norm of Yang Huijuan's life for a month.

Although being the "head of the group" can be regarded as Yang Huijuan's "specialty", she usually helps her neighbors organize community group purchases, but this time it is very different, and the "customers" have increased from more than ten people on weekdays to more than a hundred.

The workload is doubling and the risks are increasing. Yang Huijuan said that as the epidemic situation became more and more severe, residents began to be a little afraid, and regarded every time they went out as an adventure.

In order to minimize the frequency of residents going out to collect supplies and reduce the risk of infection, Yang Huijuan encouraged everyone to send a representative from each building to collect supplies every time the group shopping funds arrived, and everyone took turns to act as the delivery staff of their respective buildings. In her opinion, especially in the current severe situation of the epidemic, team spirit is necessary and important.

Positive energy is constantly circulating

The frequency of residents going out has decreased, but Yang Huijuan has to run outside almost every day.

Such "dirty work is tiring", and it is obviously untrue to say that the family has supported it from the beginning.

Mr. busy working from home, the youngest son graduated from high school this year, but full-time mother Yang Huijuan is busy at the risk of contracting the virus, and can't take care of the family, especially when the protective equipment is not in place at the beginning, the family naturally has complaints.

But gradually, Yang Huijuan won the trust of the residents with her enthusiasm, full of positive energy and excellent team organization ability.

She also found that when she was busy organizing everyone to do nucleic acid and could not cook for her family, the neighbors would quietly put hot food on her doorstep and spontaneously prepare meals for property workers who could not return home. "Distant relatives are not as good as close neighbors." Yang Huijuan sighed.

And in her group purchase and distribution team, "the business executives became my delivery brothers and delivery men, and they called me 'president'." Yang Huijuan said proudly.

And the family gradually began to support Yang Huijuan's volunteer work, and even gave her advice. For example, each building sends a representative to lead the group to purchase funds to shorten the time required for the distribution of supplies, which is the golden idea given by Mr. Yang Huijuan.

In Yang Huijuan's view, this epidemic has given her the opportunity to meet more neighbors who do not know each other. And every time a small request for help in a large group received positive feedback from her "close neighbors", it was like positive energy was constantly circulating, encouraging her to release more positive energy.

Although some foreign residents in the community have advanced their plans to leave Shanghai because of the epidemic, Yang Huijuan, who originally planned to return to Singapore with her family in August to settle down, said that she was different from others and that she saw the hope of staying in Shanghai for a longer period of time. Although Yang Huijuan eventually had to leave because of her children, she was reluctant because she felt that she and her "Yuk Angels" could contribute more to Shanghai and make the beloved city better.
