Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security and MP for the Punggol GRC Teo Chee Hean attended the event, and the following is the official statement:

My parliamentary colleagues the Ministers of State, Ms Lau Yin Ling, Ms So Wai Man, Mr Lin Wing Wah; Representative of the Singapore Religious Fellowship; Mr. Lau Swiss, Executive Director of Buddhist Tzu Chi Merit Association (Singapore); Good evening, ladies and gentlemen.

I am delighted to be here tonight for the Tzu Chi 58th Anniversary Celebration and the Buddha Bathing Ceremony.

Singapore is a multi-racial and multi-religious society. Our unity and harmony are hard-won and precious, and cannot be taken for granted.

We now often see conflicts and divisions around the world. This includes wars in Europe and the Middle East, as well as conflicts of identity and ideology in many countries, including developed countries.

Communities and faith-based organizations play an important role in promoting mutual understanding and respect among communities, as well as countering the effects that can divide societies. A harmonious and united society creates a better life for everyone.

Tzu Chi Singapore continues to contribute to strengthening social cohesion. Over the past 30 years, we have provided a variety of assistance to those in need. Tzu Chi Singapore is also a member of the Circle of Ethnic and Religious Harmony in Pasir Ris District, making an important contribution to promoting multi-racial and multi-religious cooperation and mutual understanding in the community.

I hope that Tzu Chi will continue to shine and continue to contribute to building a compassionate and tolerant society, strengthening our social cohesion and building a better future for our people.

Once again, I wish you all a happy Buddha's birthday, and I wish all mothers a happy Mother's Day.

Here's what you can say in English:

My Parliamentary colleagues, MOS Low Yen Ling, Ms Hany Soh, and Mr Liang Eng Hwa;Religious Representatives from IRO;Mr Low Swee Seh, Managing Director of Buddhist Tzu Chi Merit Organization (Singapore)

Ladies and Gentlemen

Good evening everyone. Thank you for inviting me to join you for Tzu Chi’s 58th Anniversary and Buddha Day Celebration.

Singapore is a multi-racial and multi-religious society. The unity and harmony we enjoy is hard-earned and precious; we must not take it for granted.

Around the world we see conflict and division. There are wars in Europe and the Middle East, and conflicts of identity and ideology in many countries, including developed countries.

Community and religious groups have an important role to play in promoting mutual understanding and respect, and countering divisive influences. This is important work, because social harmony and unity is the foundation on which we can create better lives for everyone in our society.

Tzu Chi helps strengthen the bonds of our society by addressing important social needs in Singapore. For the past 30 years, Tzu Chi Singapore has provided assistance to vulnerable Singaporeans. Tzu Chi also promotes multi-racial and multi-religious harmony as a member of the Pasir Ris Town Racial and Religious Harmony Circle. This work broadens the common space between social groups.

I encourage Tzu Chi to continue its good work of promoting kindness, compassion, and tolerance. Together, we can strengthen our bonds as a society and build a better future for all.

Happy Buddha Day and to all our mothers a Happy Mothers’ Day!
