Half a year of weight loss of 20 pounds, actually due to cervical spine pain all night sleepless

Aunt Wang (pseudonym), 65, and her family are working in seedling breeding in Huadu. Although the days are busy, Aunt Wang is optimistic and cheerful, and the family is also living happily. According to Aunt Wang's recollection, probably at the beginning of last year, the neck was often sore and painful. At first, she thought it was caused by exertion, but unexpectedly, the scope of the soreness and pain gradually expanded to the soles of her feet.

In June last year, Aunt Wang was treated at a nearby hospital and was told that there were mass lesions in the cervical spine. Due to the high risk of cervical spine surgery, he traveled to seven or eight hospitals and was told that he could not operate.

"Drinking Chinese medicine every day for almost a year has no effect." Aunt Wang said. "The pain was so hard to sleep all night, and people gradually lost weight, from 106 pounds to 84 pounds." Aunt Wang's daughter, Miss Zhang (pseudonym), sighed and said that at first, Aunt Wang was able to take care of herself, but later even the daily activities of walking and squatting became more and more difficult.

Accompanied by her family, Aunt Wang, who was in excruciating pain, came to Guangdong Sanjiu Brain Hospital in early April.

The operation is precisely "cleared", and the cervical spine is sore and swollen for a long time

Lin Tao, director of the second department of neurology who was admitted to the hospital, looked at the image film and combined with the medical history, it was considered that it was a high possibility of cervical schwannoma. After improving the relevant preoperative examinations, on April 13, Lin Tao's team performed an intraspinal luminectomy for the patient. The postoperative pathological diagnosis was neuroschondoma, which further confirmed Lin Tao's previous diagnosis.

Preoperative imaging of the patient

"The mass severely compresses the blood vessels and nerves in the spinal canal." Lin Tao introduced that the tumor grows in the "minefield" of the spinal cord and nerve density, and the layers of cocooning are extracted and peeled with the assistance of precision microscopic instruments during surgery, and finally the tumor is smoothly isolated and removed while protecting the spinal cord, and the accurate and injury-free "mine clearance" is realized.

After postoperative supportive treatment such as nerve reconstruction and dehydration, Aunt Wang will be discharged from the hospital in the near future.

Surgically removed lumps

"Schwannomas grow at different stages of the spinal cord and present with different clinical symptoms." Lin Tao said that it is worth noting that the higher the location of the lesion, the more serious the corresponding nerve function damage, and the higher the risk of surgery.

Lin Tao reminded that intraspinal schwannomas usually present clinically as typical nerve root pain, which is easily misdiagnosed as cervical spondylosis or lumbar spondylosis. Therefore, once the citizens and friends have cervical spondylosis and limb numbness that cannot be cured for a long time, they must go to the neurology department as soon as possible for further investigation.
