As for the reasons for withdrawing from the OEA, Nicaragua pointed out in the statement that the organization can no longer represent the broad interests of Latin American countries, but has become a tool for the United States to achieve "Yankee imperialism", through which the United States has committed "3 deadly sins" against Latin American countries and peoples - violating the sovereignty and independence of other countries, interfering in the internal affairs of other countries, and using violence or coups to launch aggression against other countries.
The Government of Nicaragua, indicating that it did not want to become a colony for anyone, had taken that responsible decision. Venezuela, which quit the group a few years ago, praised Nicaragua's move as a courageous fight against "imperialism."
But the OAS criticized Nicaragua's move as "a violation of basic international norms" because the Nicaraguan government formally applied to the organization for withdrawal last November, according to which the decision to withdraw should not take effect until the end of 2023.
