In the face of difficulties in the global automotive industry, Tesla still set a record profit for several consecutive quarters. Earlier, Tesla announced this year's Q1 financial report, which showed that Tesla's net profit was $3.318 billion, an increase of 658% year-on-year.

Tesla's Shanghai factory accounts for half of Tesla's global deliveries and is also an important overseas export center for Tesla. Last year, the Shanghai plant delivered 484,100 units a year. Even Musk himself is very optimistic about the capacity of the Shanghai factory this year.

Seeing that Tesla's profitability is so good, and the huge benefits brought by the Terrass Shanghai factory, India's eyes are red. On April 26, local time, according to media reports, if Tesla produces and exports cars in India, India will be very welcome.

This is not the first time that Indian officials have invited Tesla. On October 8 last year, Indian officials said that Tesla can only occupy a certain share of the market if it builds a factory in India.

Since 2015, India has hoped to promote the development of local electric vehicles, batteries and other related industries, so as to reduce the high cost of imports, curb exhaust pollution, and actively promote clean energy.

In March, India pledged incentives to Tesla and marketed that about 80 percent of India's lithium batteries are produced locally; it could help Tesla export; and it wanted to cooperate with Tesla in hyperloop.

It sounds good, but India's actual approach is very extreme. Indian officials have set a 60%-100% vehicle tariff on imported electric vehicles. Musk has repeatedly asked India to lower tariffs, but has not made any real progress.

In addition, the sales of new energy vehicles in India are not very good. In 2020, India sold 5,000 new energy vehicles, while China sold 1.25 million in the same year, accounting for one-third of Tesla's global sales.

Analysts believe that India's investment in electric vehicle production conditions and infrastructure is insufficient, and not many people can afford the high price of electric vehicles, And India does not have the mature and comprehensive new energy vehicle development policy of China.
