Artron Lecture Hall | Lautrec: "Scumbag" has a deep affection

Today, let's talk about Lautrec.

Lautrec Toulouse (1864-1901)

French Post-Impressionist painter

Since ancient times, the affection can not be retained, and the scumbag always wins the hearts of the people.

But there is a man, "scum" is not the same.

Although he is in the circle of prostitutes and lives in brothels for many years, his "scum" hides countless sorrows and helplessness, of course, there is infinite affection.

It can be said that his short life is a wonderful thing that even the gold medal screenwriter cannot write.

This "unique" man is Lautrec.

A unique artist belonging to the "post-impression" period. Behind his works of wandering skeletons, deeply buried is a lamentable human tragedy.

Bizarre life

On November 24, 1864, a young boy was born in a noble mansion on the banks of the Tarn River in southern France.

Supposedly, the birth of a new life is a joyous thing, but his birth is vaguely unsettling.

Because, he is the descendant of a close relative who married.

But at the time, most people didn't realize the seriousness of the problem, just didn't understand how the child was always sick. But who knows, this is not simply a weak and sickly person, but a fatal problem of genetic defects.

His birth, therefore, is a tragedy in itself.

But compared with his younger brother, who died quickly, he was lucky to survive after all, but the crisis soon came. At the age of 14, he fell out of a chair and fractured his left leg, and later fell into a hole while walking, fractured his right leg. What's worse is that after breaking two legs in a row, his legs never grow again, but his upper body is still developing normally.

Isn't this just a dwarf with an abnormal proportion?

Yes, the boy stopped growing in adolescence, remained at 1.52 meters tall, and was on crutches for life.

Therefore, although this noble descendant has gathered thousands of favors in one, the serious physical defects are like a rusty iron nail that has been firmly nailed into the heart since birth, and since then it has rusted and corroded the body...

This unfortunate rich second generation is today's protagonist, Lautrec.

But fortunately, art saved him to some extent.

Because of his extraordinary origin, keen perception and escort of wealthy family, Lautrec showed a high artistic talent from an early age, coupled with intentional or unintentional stimulation from the outside world, he began to seek a more direct, more intense, and purer way of art to talk to himself.

In this way, he no longer complains about others, but actively integrates into normal life. This can be seen in his early work, The Young Woman At the Table. On the screen, rich and short brushstrokes overflow, loose color points form a coherent block, and the overall pleasant emotion is very moving. The work was later purchased by Van Gogh's younger brother Theo and is still in the Van Gogh Museum.

Perhaps since then, painting has compensated him more than he has suffered.

The Moulin Rouge era

After a short period of study in Paris, Lautrec came to Montmartre.

This place is destined to rise to fame because of him.

In the nineteenth century, Montmartre was romantic and decadent, with the dancers of the Moulin Rouge, the drunken night, the wanderers of bad luck taking root here, and Van Gogh, Gauguin, Cézanne, Miró and others gathered on the spot. Lautrec not only found a moment of peace of mind here, but the lively and noisy indoor environment made his heart full of security.

Soon, he ushered in the peak of artistic creation.
