On the Q1 2022 earnings call, Musk shared some details about Tesla's new robo-taxi: The new car will have no steering wheel or pedals because it will take full advantage of Tesla's fully autonomous driving (FSD) software.
"I think a lot of of its innovations are very exciting, it's trying to achieve the lowest operating costs to meet people's travel needs, and I think it's going to be a very powerful product," Musk even said, and Musk even said that the cost of riding a Tesla self-driving taxi will be lower than the price of a bus ticket.
According to Tesla, which aims to achieve mass production of its dedicated self-driving taxis by 2024, the company is planning to unveil a new self-driving taxi sometime next year.
Just recently, Ark predicted that Tesla's fleet of self-driving taxis could generate $486 billion in annual revenue by 2026, and Tesla's self-driving taxi business could contribute 60% of its expected value.
The rollout of the fleet of self-driving taxis will depend on Tesla's FSD software development, and since self-driving taxis don't have steering wheels or pedals, FSD needs to make sweeping improvements and be prepared to deal with the situation that it can drive on most roads.
