After the launch of Doom 4 in 2016, id Software and Avalanche Studios (JustInfidence, Mad Max) jointly developed Fury 2. Rage 2 introduces an open-world setting and other changes, such as different color designs, playable characters with selectable genders, added abilities and skills, and more.

Id Software then developed Doom: Eternity, which changed all the shortcomings of the previous game and brought a more powerful and compact FPS gaming experience. The game received a lot of content after its release, including a clan mode, master levels, and more. Since then, many fans have wondered what id Software has prepared for them in the next game.

A recent "Advanced Gameplay Programmer" advertisement released on the official website confirmed that id Software's Dallas team was developing an unpublished game project, requiring responsibility for implementing new gameplay features, including player and character behavior, combat and ability mechanics, UI, and so on.

The position requires at least 5 years of industry experience or an FPS game that can be put to work. Candidates who have used the idTech engine will be given priority, which means that id Software's new work will continue to be developed using the idTech engine.

idTech is id Software's own internal engine, id most of the games are built by this engine, the latest version is idTech 7. Both Doom and Quake were developed with the idTech engine. Rage 2 uses Avalanche Studios' APEX engine, but Rage 1 is an idTech engine.

At present, it is not easy to guess what id Software's unpublished FPS game is, and it is not excluded that it is a brand new IP. We can only hope that the new game will be as good as id Software's past games.
