In a YouGov survey released to players over the weekend, Activision Blizzard, a game company that is being acquired by Microsoft, asked players what their "interest" was in a range of "emerging/future trends in gaming," including NFTs (non-homogeneous tokens).

Among the standard innovations in the gaming industry, such as VR and AR, artificial intelligence, cross-platform online gaming, and game subscription services, the company also solicited player input on more controversial topics such as "metaverse gaming experiences, games based on blockchain technology (earning cryptocurrency, NFTs, or real money)."

Of course, Activision Blizzard isn't the only company involved in NFTs. Just last week, Sega's producer Masayoshi Kikuchi said: "For the future of gaming, it will expand to involve new areas such as cloud gaming and NFTs, which is a natural extension." Other companies interested in NFTs include Square Enix, Konami and Ubisoft.

However, not all companies share the same view. Platinum Game Studios, for its part, shared its views on the issue, calling the spread of the controversial technology "frustrating" because it "has no practical positive impact on creators or users."
