Youth in the Flames of War (II)

His father, Liu Naiyan, grew up in the Yimeng Mountains and fought in the Yimeng Mountains, and during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, he and many comrades-in-arms of the Shandong Column and later the Luzhong Military Region bravely braved hardships, persevered, and fought heroically, leaving behind many red battle stories.

6. Difficult return

In 1941, during the anti-"sweeping" struggle in the Yimeng Mountains, my father broke up with the troops twice, and insisted on retrieving the troops with unswerving conviction.

After his first break-up with the troops, my father struggled to get back to the troops, something that happened when he was under 17 years old and was in the anti-"sweeping" struggle in early November 1941.

Youth in the Flames of War (II)

In November 1941, the Japanese army invading China mobilized the main force of the 10th Army and the 3 mixed brigades of the 22nd Division and more than 53,000 puppet troops, and the commander-in-chief of the Japanese invasion of China, Hata Shunroku, sat in Linyi to supervise the battle, and lieutenant general Tuqiao, commander of the Shandong District of the Japanese Army, launched a "sweep" of the "iron wall" style in our Yimeng anti-Japanese base area. More than 50,000 Japanese troops carried out a large-scale "sweep" of the anti-Japanese base area on Mount Yimeng, which lasted for about 3 months. In the brutal and fierce anti-"sweeping" struggle, the party, government, military, and people in the Luzhong base area paid a heavy price, the population decreased by 700,000, the number of villages decreased by more than 2,000, and the main force of the Eighth Route Army was reduced by more than one-third.

In the face of the dangerous environment, my father told me several times that at that time, there were also people in our army who believed that the world belonged to the Japanese, and some people in the army defected or deserted. But he and many of his comrades never left the unit, and even if they were left behind in battle, they had to find the unit.

In the anti-"sweeping" struggle, he was separated from the troops twice in a month in order to cover the retreat of troops and comrades-in-arms. This story is full of danger and suspense, he told our family many times, has been deeply remembered in my mind.

This article begins with the story of my father's recovery of the army after his first separation.

My father had a detailed record of the dispersion and the recovery of the troops after six days: "Beginning at the end of October 1941, the Japanese army carried out a large-scale "sweep" of the anti-Japanese base area on Our Yimeng Mountain.

In this "sweep" by the Japanese army, our Mengshan detachment was somewhat prepared. I was in the Shandong Column Mengshan Detachment 2nd Battalion 5 Company. Before the war, the troops mobilized, made the necessary preparations for weapons and ammunition, and each person was given a pound of steamed buns. Soon after the enemy "swept up," we moved into the mountains, and after a day of marching, at dusk we were stationed in a village at the eastern foot of Mount Mengshan.

The next morning, the deputy squad leader of the 8th squad of the 5th Company took me and another soldier to the south of the village to change the guard. According to the order of induction, I knew that I should go to work, but I didn't want to get up, maybe I was too tired, as if the grass on the ground had any attraction, and the comrade with the class urged me to get up several times.

In the late autumn weather, which was a little cool, I put on my military uniform, and another soldier went out of the village with the deputy squad leader, walked about four or five hundred meters to the southwest, and went up a small highland. I don't know who said to himself, "It's so cold." The northwest wind in late autumn is indeed a bit cool.

After the handover, we took guns and lay down in a low-lying place. The deputy squad leader told us: "It is dawn, pay attention to the situation in the east and south." Each of us kept a close eye on the front, and it was quiet all around, only the whistling of the northwest wind and the chirping of chickens in the distance. The soldier did not hesitate to report: "Deputy squad leader, there seems to be a situation in the east." We immediately stared wide-eyed, and then almost at the same time several of us noticed that the enemy was gradually encircling the village where our company lived from the east and south, and the enemy's battle knives and bayonets shone in the morning light. The enemy came, and the deputy squad leader immediately signaled to the village troops, fired a shot, and ordered us to prepare for battle.

As soon as the gunfire rang out, the enemy ran towards the village and surrounded it, and some of them rushed toward our post. In an instant, our company's personnel ran out of the village and quickly withdrew to the northwest. The enemy immediately attacked us from the east and south. We fired a few shots and threw a few grenades. "Evacuate," said the deputy squad leader, as he ran down a small ditch to the northwest, and we followed. Soon the enemy took our post and shot at us with fire, and we ran as fast as we could.

The first day of the search for troops

We ran two or three miles together, stopping to breathe slowly. It seemed that the enemy was not pursuing us, and the sound of gunfire had subsided. We broke up with the troops, and the soldier asked the deputy squad leader, "Where are we going?" The deputy squad leader said: "The troops have gone to the northwest, and we have gone to the northwest to look for it." ”

We walked for a while, didn't care about eating, very thirsty, just lying on the edge of the ditch and drinking a few sips of water, cold water, but very thirst-quenching. Climb over a few hills and climb Cowhide Ridge. This was a high ground in the eastern foothills of Mount Mon, and we hid in a dense masson pine forest, monitoring the enemy's activities down the hill. The terrain here is relatively high, and I can see the enemy's activities in nearby villages and roads.

In the afternoon, the deputy squad leader took advantage of our lack of preparation, abandoned the gun and fled, leaving two of us and three guns. At that time, the struggle against the enemy was extremely cruel, and desertion by those who were not firm in will occurred from time to time. What are we going to do? I was worried, and the comrade-in-arms with me, because I couldn't remember his name, could only call him comrade-in-arms in the text, and he said to me: "The deputy squad leader has run away, you are responsible." I said, "You're in charge, I'm in charge of my short time in the company, or you're in charge." He said, "You're the study group leader." We gave in for a while and he wouldn't accept my offer anyway. I asked him, "What do you think we should do now?" He said, "Wait until it gets dark." ”

I was 17 years old, this little age, I really don't know how to bear this responsibility? The battalion commissioner once told me that the chief and deputy squad leaders of our squad were unreliable, and now that the deputy squad leader had escaped while I was with me, how could I go back and explain to the commissioner? Just now the Japanese army came to sneak attack, where did our company go? Do not know the size of casualties? What am I going to do? A rush of anxiety and anxiety came up, making me sit restless, I was like a child who had left her mother, I felt that there was no dependence, and I was anxious.

The deputy squad leader had asked me before he fled, "How far is this place from your house?" I replied that he was not far away, and he said, "Let's put the gun down (i.e., bury it) and go to your house and hide for a few days." Without hesitation, I said, "Isn't that a deserter?" The deputy squad leader saw that he couldn't move me and said nothing more.

I really didn't expect the deputy squad leader to run away when we were not prepared. This incident made me restless and restless, and I repeatedly hovered between several large trees.

After a pause, I hid in a hidden place, looked into the distance, looked up, observed the enemy's movements, searched for the trail of our troops, at this time, only the sound of gunfire was heard in the distance, but the shadows of our troops could not be seen.

Suddenly, I noticed a trail of blood on the ground not far in front of me, and I asked my comrades to follow the blood trail.

After walking about a hundred meters, I found a wounded man in civilian clothes lying in front of a large rock. I looked closer and saw that the wounded were a young rural woman, and when she saw us, she was a little alarmed. We said to her, "Don't be afraid, we are the Eighth Route Army. "This place is our base area, and she was relieved to hear that it was the Eighth Route Army." Her calf was wounded by the Japanese army, it was a penetrating gunshot wound, not serious, the distance between the entrance and the exit was very close, but there was some blood, her face was sallow, her whole body was trembling with coldness, her upper and lower teeth were rattling, and she was moaning constantly.

The comrade-in-arms comforted her and said, "Don't be afraid, the injury is not serious, it doesn't hurt your bones and bones, just raise it for a few days." I said to her, "Give you some cloth and you'll bandage yourself." She said, "I'm afraid of pain, so you can give me a bag." "I took a washed torn blouse from my backpack, tore off a piece, and handed it to my comrade-in-arms, who wrapped it up according to the bandaging method he usually learned.

She told us, "I didn't wait for dawn to hurt the devil, I didn't eat or drink for a day, I was hungry and thirsty." After listening to her, we were very embarrassed, because we had a rule, there was no order not to move the spare food, I thought about it a little, decided to give her a steamed bun, I only have four, comrade-in-arms reminded me: "This is going to be criticized." I said, "Yeah, it's important to save your life." The afternoon before yesterday, each of us was given a pound of steamed buns, and the company commander stipulated that there was no order not to eat, and we did not dare to move after being hungry for most of the day, but it was important to save the lives of the wounded people, how could I not give it to her.

The sun was about to set, the gunfire around them slowly stopped, and the enemies in the mountain village returned one after another. I asked my comrades to help the wounded, and I walked ahead toward a village in the northwest corner of the mountain.

Youth in the Flames of War (II)

On the way, we met two more soldiers who had fallen behind, one of whom belonged to the Mengshan detachment, one of whom belonged to our company and one of whom was from a brotherly company. One was named Du Yugui, the other was gao Shunde, and they were also scattered by the enemy in the morning, where did the troops go? They don't know. After we introduced each other, they wanted to act with us, and by this time we were four people and five guns. The four of us act together, and many people are powerful.

As we approached a village, three people came from the village, and when they saw us, they said they had come to look for the wounded man. We stopped, and one of them, a young man, who might be a relative of the wounded, introduced him to us to wrap her wounds, and gave her the steamed buns that he was reluctant to eat, and helped her here. The young man didn't say a word after listening, he just knelt down and kowtowed to us, we pulled him up, and he kept thanking us. I said to him, "This is what our Eighth Route Army should do." The young man said to the injured, "During the day the devils are in the village, and I dare not come to you." Then we went into the village together, and five or six more people came, and one of them first asked, "How is the injury?" The injured could not speak for a moment, and another person introduced himself to us: "This is our village chief." The wounded said, "Fortunately, I met these eighth-route army comrades, wrapped me up, and ..." The village chief said: "Thank you eighth route army comrades." The village chief then asked, "Where are you going?" "We told him that we had lost contact with the troops this morning and were going to find the troops. The village chief said: "First go to the village to have some food, inquire about it and then leave." "We hadn't eaten for most of the day and were hungry, and he took us into the village.

The village is not big, about six or seven families, and the houses have been burned by the devils. The village chief took us to two empty houses at the head of the village, ordered a man to make us food, and we took the opportunity to sit against the wall with guns and rest for a while, and soon some people snored. I couldn't sleep, thinking about how to find the troops.

Youth in the Flames of War (II)

I was thinking about it when the village chief suddenly appeared outside the door and said to us, "Eat, the house is dark, the outside is bright, come out to eat." Then came three or four people, with boiling water in their hands, boiling sweet potatoes, and a few pancakes. The village chief said apologetically, "Let's eat something, no way, you can take the rest with you." Several of us said almost together: "Thank you, that's fine." I advised my comrades to eat as much sweet potato as possible, and the remaining pancakes were taken with them on the road.

After we finished eating, the crowd packed up the pots and bowls and brought them back, and the village chief accompanied me into the house, and I asked him: "Have you heard the letter from the troops?" He said: "I asked several people, and they all said that they saw our troops going west in the morning, but they didn't know where they went." The village chief lit a cigarette bag, smoked the cigarette pot and creaked, stopped for a long time, the village chief bumped the cigarette bag on the ground, and blew a few more times, he said in a deliberative tone: "I see that you will stay here first, and then leave when you find out the whereabouts of the troops." I thought about it a little and said, "No, we have to go tonight." The village chief sighed and said, "Now there are devils and traitors everywhere, so you should be careful." I said, "Chief, please go back and rest." We rest for a while and go. The village chief said, "But you have to leave the village before dawn, maybe the enemy will come before dawn, even if you don't go back to the village at night." ”

The village chief asked me again: "Comrade, how long can you watch the enemy sweep?" I said to the village chief, "The enemy's sweep has just begun, and it will take longer to plan." Tell the villagers that we must crush the enemy's sweep. Our large troops are only temporarily out of here, and they will fight back later. Finally, the village chief said: "I will go back to the villagers and tell them that if you can't find the troops, you will come back again, and I will leave." ”

Bidding farewell to the village chief, we rested. I thought about it and couldn't sleep. Thinking: Where to find the troops? What if I can't find it? I was not drowsy at all, and when I walked out of the house and looked around, I found nothing wrong, except the sound of cold gunshots coming from the north and south. After a while, I went into the house to wake everyone up, discussed for a while, unified my thoughts, and left the village and headed west.

The rough and narrow hilly road was difficult to walk, and the northwest wind blew on our faces like a knife cut, and we moved forward quietly.

In the middle of the night, we walked for more than ten miles, and it was almost dawn, so for safety, we had to find the nearest mountain to hide. It was ok, we brought food with us and weren't hungry.

Look for troops the next day

We did not dare to slack off at all on the mountain, and kept watching the activities of the enemy, and during the day the enemy only wandered around the village and did not go up the mountain to search.

After the sun sets, the village under the mountain is very calm. We began to descend the hill and reconnoitred into the small mountain village.

The village was very quiet, and after entering the village, I passed through several streets and alleys, and found an old man sitting at the head of the village, who told us that the people in the village were hiding in the mountains. When he knew our intentions, he insisted on taking us to the mountains to find the village chief to find a way to help us find troops. With everyone's consent, I followed the old man to the mountains.

The old man led us to a small cave, the small cave was crowded with people, the old man ordered us to light pine firewood, beckoned us to enter, and then blocked the cave door. The small cave is not big, there are more than a dozen fellow villagers inside, and it is crowded. The old man instructed us to boil water first, cook for cooking, and send someone to ask the village chief to come over.

We drank boiling water, and the villagers gathered around to ask the devils to "sweep", when we would "sweep" and so on. After a while, the old man shouted: "Flash an empty space, bring the meal to eat and say." We knew that the masses were having a hard time in the mountains, and we could eat two meals with our own food, so I said, "Uncle, we have food." The old man said, "Leave the little things you brought with you for emergency, this devil doesn't know when to leave." Many of the crowds covered our steaming ripe sweet potatoes and stuffed them into our hands, "Eat quickly, and sleep here after eating." Tell the village chief to go out tomorrow to inquire about the news of the troops, and it will not be too late for you to leave. It's easier than you can run around. The old man said while smoking.

We finished our meal and the village chief came, a middle-aged man in his early forties, very enthusiastic. He said, "You are staying here tonight, and after dawn I will find someone to go to the west to inquire about the troops." Sleep with confidence. There are our people standing guard all around, and we know wherever the enemy comes from. I'll tell you whenever there's a situation. When the village chief said this, we were relieved. The four of us discussed, and we rested in the first half of the night, and then took turns to put up the sentry with the masses in the second half of the night. We were about to rest when a girl pointed to the quilt of her comrade-in-arms Xiao Wang and said to Xiao Du, "Comrade, put on this, take off the cotton jacket and I will sew it for you." Little Du said shyly, "No, I can sew myself." One of the bridesmaids said, "Take it off!" I don't have a good look, let this child sew for you, or block the wind. After the eldest lady finished speaking, she put some old cloth in front of us and said to me: "Put it on, look at your foot cracks so long, they are bleeding, and this winter is still growing." I said, "Thank you, Big Lady, you keep it, we are not cold, we are used to it." "Put it on!" She was not an outsider, and her grandson was also the Eighth Route Army. The village chief urged. The uncle who was sitting next to him said, "Alas, this comrade is still wearing single pants, how can the sins of this winter be suffered?" ”

The soldiers and civilians sat around, and after talking for a while, Uncle Grandpa urged us to sleep.

About midnight, I got up and went outside to check on the situation, and the young man who changed the guard took me to the post to have a look. Late at night, after walking around a few posts, I returned to the small hole and called up another comrade to go with the crowd to the sentry.

The night passed quickly, and we had dinner before dawn. Soon, gunshots were heard in the east, at most two miles away. Uncle Didn't hurry and said, "I'm not sure, this shot is either in Waguyu or Honghuayu, let's get ready to see where the enemy is going?" "Honghuayu is located in Fei County.

Youth in the Flames of War (II)

After a while, there was a fire in the village under the mountain, and the fire became bigger and bigger, and the whole village burned up, and the smoke covered the sun, the fire soared into the sky, and the enemy was burning the houses of the common people.

In the face of the enemy's madness and evil, the four of us discussed it for a while, and in order to protect the masses, decided to hit the enemy and lead the enemy away, so as not to continue to do evil in the village. I said to my comrades-in-arms, "Let's go down this ditch and hit it unexpectedly." "Three comrades-in-arms are about to go with me. Uncle Da hurriedly stopped us and said, "Their family has a good style (weapon), and there are many people, so they can't go and eat this loss." I pleaded and said, "Uncle, we pay attention to safety, and we can't afford to lose." Just let's go. A young man then said, "Give me a grenade, and I'll go with you. Uncle also said: "No, no one can go, can not take the risk, let the devils burn it, is not just a few empty grass houses, we have grass and trees and stones in the mountains, and we are afraid that there is no house to live in, as long as the little devils can't move away from Mengshan, victory is ours." Many of the masses said in unison: Comrades of the Eighth Route Army cannot go.

With the persuasion of the masses, we gave up the plan to fight the devils, but we have been observing the movements of the enemy. This group of innocent little devils tossed and turned until noon before leaving the village.

When the sun was in the west, we were discussing with the masses how to fight against the enemy, and when everyone was talking about everything, the village chief came with the old man who listened to the news of the troops. The old man said: He first went to his relatives' house after Linghou, and then went to the villages of Luggagegou and Fujiagou before he found out that there were our troops in Wutonggou. I asked, "Do you know which unit it is?" The old man shook his head and said, "I don't know." I said, "No matter which unit it is, as long as it is our unit." "I made up my mind to take my comrades-in-arms to Wutonggou to find troops, which is located in the recess of the mountain at the western foot of Daqing Mountain.

Hearing that we were going to find the troops, the village chief immediately explained: "Cook early and let the comrades eat well." A young man surnamed Gao said, "Father, I will also go with the Eighth Route Army." The village chief persuaded: "Tall Lady was killed by the devils who entered the village the day before yesterday, but Uncle Tall is still sick, and you have a good care at home, and it is not too late to wait for Uncle Tall to be well and then go to the army to join the Eighth Route Army." The crowd persuaded him a few more times, and the young man reluctantly agreed to take care of his grandfather at home for the time being. At this time, a young man about twenty years old standing next to me said, "I will go to be the eighth way to avenge my mother." The village chief approached the old man and asked, "Big brother, do you let him go?" The old man pondered for a moment and said, "You let him go, avenge his mother, and beating the devil is the right thing." A few young people shouted that they were going to become soldiers, and I said to them, "It is a good thing to be an Eighth Route Army and fight devils, but now I can't take you away, a few of us are left behind, and we don't know which day we will find the troops, and in the meantime, we don't know what will happen. I patiently told Uncle Tall and Big Brother this, but they still said that they should fight the devils to avenge her mother.

As soon as the sun set, the four of us, feeling grateful, took the food given to us by our fellow villagers, bid farewell to these people who supported the Eighth Route Army, and went straight to the sycamore tree ditch.

Before leaving, the crowd that sent us outside the cave repeatedly told us, "Remember, in case we can't find the troops and come back." "What a good people of Yimeng Mountain, they regard us as their children, love and help us.

Along the way, we try to walk as fast as we can. First I went to Shangwutonggou and then to Xiawutonggou without seeing our troops or my fellow countrymen.

I said with some disappointment and no opinion: "Take a break, everyone think about what we should do?" "As we rest, you talk about me and me. Some say that our troops may have gone to Mount Simon. Some say, not necessarily, maybe it's near here. Du Yugui suggested, "My opinion, let's take a covert observation on the mountains in this area tonight." If you can see the people on the mountain, ask about it. A comrade added: "To the east is a big mountain, that is, a hundred and eighty enemies have come, and we are not afraid to turn the mountain with him." I synthesized their opinions, consulted with them, and said, "Okay, let's go to the top of the big mountain and hide, let's see." "Everybody agreed to go there.

Led by Gao Shunde, we climbed together to the north side of the big hilltop and chose a place that was easy to hide, move and observe.

The third day of the search for troops

After dawn, I went to the top of the big hill and looked around for a while, and the surrounding area was calm, only there were intermittent gunshots in the distance, but I did not see our troops.

In the afternoon, there was a loud burst of gunfire in our southeast direction, which lasted for about ten minutes. Du Yugui said: "The place where the gun was fired was in the area of Nanshagouyu, which is a yu in Nantong Fei County, North Mengyin County, between the East and West Mengshan Mountains, called TaiDao. ”

We continued to hide in the mountains.

When the sun was just turning west, the comrade in charge of observing the situation said, "Notice that someone is coming." A comrade said, "A man is a man." The closer the people came to us, the more clearly we could see, and a comrade with sharp eyes said, "It is a puppet army." "Well, it's a puppet army." "Wear yellow leather." This puppet army came in our direction with a long gun, and I looked around, noticing any enemy troop activity, and decided to take action to catch this enemy.

Youth in the Flames of War (II)

I said to them, "One man observes and hides, and two men follow me to catch him." We quickly hid at the ambush site, and when he approached us, we stood up at the same time and pointed the muzzle of the gun at him, ordered him to put down the gun, he put down the gun, raised his hand, did not resist at all, and obediently followed us to our hiding place.

After some interrogation, we learned that a battalion of the puppet army was stationed here, and it was the commander of the puppet army who thought that there was no Eighth Route Army in this area, so he asked this puppet army and another puppet army to deliver a letter, and went to a company of the puppet army in the Area of Hongkouzi in the east to convey a verbal order, telling this company to go to Shilan camp tonight, and on the way another puppet army that delivered the letter escaped. When I learned of this information, I knew it.

One afternoon was calm, and as the sun set, in accordance with our army's policy, I released the captives who had undergone simple education.

We handed over a good gun, a brand new Hanyang-made gun, and more than a hundred rounds of ammunition, and we divided it equally. Everyone unanimously asked me to use this gun, and I happily accepted it.

It was still early in the morning and it was not possible to go down the mountain, although there were no enemies on the mountain. We take advantage of this idleness to practice aiming, practicing arm strength, and in order to maintain the accuracy of shooting, we must practice as long as we have the opportunity to improve our ability to kill the enemy.

When the sun was about to set, we began to go down the mountain, and successively went to Nangou, Qingjia, Hongkouzi, Dongzhanglin, and other areas, and met some people, but still did not hear from the troops. So we decided to go up the hill to hide and continue to look for troops in this area. The night passed peacefully.

The fourth day of the search for troops

Before dawn, we moved to the north side of Daqing Mountain for covert observation.

At noon, it was transferred to the mountain east of Honghuayu to hide.

In the evening we went to the top of the mountain, and the troops were still not found in the Yangjiazhuang area.

Although several days passed and no troops were found, my belief in leading my comrades to find troops has not changed.

It was getting dark, and riding on the night, we went up Swallow Mountain. This mountain is a peak in the area.

This day, it was still too peaceful, although there were enemy activities, but it was far away from us.

On the hill, we discussed going to the western village in the north to continue looking for troops this evening.

In the evening, we began to move, walking through several villages in succession, and did not find the troops.

It is estimated that in the middle of the night, we arrived at Yangjiazhuang, a village located in Mengyin County.

As soon as we reached the south end of the village, we were noticed by the enemy sentries, but fortunately we were more vigilant and quickly retreated to the southwest. The enemy's fire was fierce, machine guns and small cannons were constantly sounding, and we didn't know who in our group said to themselves: "It's a devil." "We ran together to the east side of the South Ditch of Hujiazhuang before stopping, and the enemy's gunfire also stopped.

After a short rest, we found that a comrade had a slight wound on the shoulder area, and there was not much blood, so after giving him a simple bandage, we discussed where to hide together.

Everyone had a heated discussion about what you said, but the differences were also big. I thought that if the enemy spotted us at night, we would definitely intensify our search in this area during the day. My opinion is that we should go as far as we can and go into hiding in the Dagang area. Du Yugui, who had not spoken before, said: "Dagang is too far from here, and the road is not easy to walk, I am afraid that I will not be able to catch it before dawn." I asked Du Yugui, "If you can't catch up with Dagang, then what else is suitable for concealment?" Du Yugui said, "Then go to The North Mountain of Heiyuzi, that mountain is not small, and it has always been a mountain to the north." I said, "Okay, let's go." "Give me your gun," I said as I stood up and put my hand on the wounded comrade, who said, "No, I can carry it." Du Yugui, who was tall and strong, took the gun and said, "Give it to me, no one should fight." ”

Du Yugui was in front, I was in the back, and I kept urging my comrades to go fast, stumbling along the way, and we ran forward with force. After walking for a while, the comrade who was closely behind me said breathlessly, "Take a break, team leader." "I realized that he was young and weak, and this kind of movement was unbearable for him, so I immediately told Du Yugui to slow down a little, rest for a while in between, and we continued to set off for the destination.

When the east side was already bright, I asked Gao Deshun where he was? He said that he had just passed the folding color Yuzi. I asked anxiously, "Can I get to Dagang before dawn?" Du Yugui replied as he walked. "Needless to say about Dagang, just this way of walking, even the Heiyu North Mountain can't get there." I asked again, "Is this nearby a high mountain to the south or a mountain to the north?" Du Yugui said: "There are mountains in the south and north, and they are not as high as Dagang." "We kept walking.

After a while, after getting off the road, I asked again: "Turning to the south, how far is this place from the right front post?" Gao Deshun immediately replied: "Just a little south-west, about two miles to the road." Du Yugui and I discussed: "Leader, we don't necessarily go to the mountains." I think it's not far from the road, and it might be safer to be inconspicuous. I said, "Okay, find a place where you can hide, observe, and move." Du Yugui echoed, "Yes." ”

We walked about a mile south along the mountain road east of the Oma River and climbed up the west mountain.

Although the mountains here are not very high, the terrain is steep, full of pine trees, rocky cover, and it is a good place to hide.

After dawn, we adjusted our places again and ate something. Except for one person on guard, the rest of the people were asleep, and I stipulated that the second shift would be served by me and Gao Deshun.

The fifth day of the search for troops

Soon after the sun came out, we successively found that the lotus stone and the heiyu north mountain had enemies walking around, shouting and shouting and shooting guns. Enemies come and go on the east-west boulevard. At noon, the enemy came down from the mountain and cooked at the rocks, the Great River, and the River Valley not far from us.

When the sun was far to the west, the enemy withdrew from the village, and then a fire broke out in the village. Du Yugui said indignantly, "These beasts have ruined the village and burned down the house." ”

Before the sun set, the enemy withdrew from the mountains and villages to the west, and the enemy concentrated in the large villages to the west.

After a while, about twenty people came from the east, including about a dozen ghosts, carrying a crooked machine gun, and when they passed the Oma River, they burned down the house again. A comrade said: "The enemy is too rampant, let's hit him." I said, "At this time, the enemy's large troops have withdrawn to the west, and we can deal with these enemies." Du Yugui supported my opinion: "Leader, you see that there are more than a dozen enemies coming from the east." ”

The enemy of the Ōma River was gone, and the dozen or so puppet troops from the east were probably the last enemies to retreat, and I advocated a fight, and everyone agreed.

We moved covertly to the south of Chaoshi Village, about two hundred meters from the village, when the enemy was loose and careless. I told everyone, "Aim and fight again." When the enemy came to the most favorable place for us to shoot, I shouted "Fight." A row of guns shot out, hitting the enemy with his head in his arms and running westward. The enemy was only concerned with fleeing, aimlessly shooting at us. For a moment, the enemy was no longer found in the east, and the enemy who was heading west also went far.

The sun went down and we went down into the village of chaos. "Captain, there's a dead man here." Du Yugui pointed to the corpse of the enemy who had just been killed by us and said, We looked closer, and the bullet penetrated through the enemy's chest. We took his gun, but the bullets and grenade bags were on the enemy, and we took out three grenades, more than fifty rounds of ammunition, and divided the booty. We discussed going east and continuing to look for troops.

We walked along the colorful and banged stones, and finally arrived at the Phoenix Cliff, the two villages in front of us did not see anyone, in the Phoenix Cliff Village met the villagers who returned to the village to get things, asked the villagers but did not hear the news of the troops. So we decided to hide in the southeastern mountain of Phoenix Cliff.

The sixth day of the search for troops

In the mountains, the day was very calm all morning, no one was found on the mountain, no gunshots were heard nearby, and occasionally people walked around on the road, looking like ordinary people.

In the afternoon, when the sun is westerly, there are several people collecting firewood on the north side of Wucaizhuang. The sharp-eyed Du Yugui said, "It seems to be wearing a military uniform, like our people." "Everybody looked closely and said it was like that.

We discussed a bit, and Du Yugui and Gao Deshun went to covertly approach to see if it was our people. In a moment, Du Yugui and Gao Deshun returned and said that they were accurate, and it was our people who were collecting firewood, but they did not dare to come forward and ask. I said, "Let's not just be happy, if the enemy pretends to be our man, he will be deceived, and then observe."

After a while, two ordinary people came out of The Colorful Village and went north. We decided to ask these two people for clarification. I led my comrades down the mountain to intercept the two common people, and after inquiry, confirmed that these people in military uniforms were our people, and after thanking them, we immediately went down the mountain and walked towards Wucaizhuang.

When we entered the village, we stood guard and asked which unit we were from, and after we explained, we asked them which unit they were, and only then did we know that it was the 1st battalion of our Mengshan detachment stationed here. We immediately went to the battalion headquarters, and after explaining the situation, the people at the battalion headquarters told us that the 2nd battalion was behind the post.

We finally found the troops to return to the team, and the company commander and instructor were very happy to see us back in the company.

After eating, the two comrades of the fraternal unit went back separately, and I went to the company to report on the dispersion, and the company commander listened carefully to my report. On the same day, he praised me at the all-company meeting, and also praised my comrades who returned to the team with me.

The next day, the company commander announced that I was the deputy squad leader of our eighth class. There were seven or eight people in our squad, and there were several comrades who were older than me, and I was worried that I would not be able to do so, so I suggested that the company commander choose another suitable person to be the deputy squad leader. He encouraged me to work boldly and not to worry. ”

In the winter of 1941, in the struggle against "sweeping", on the way to find troops separated from the troops, facing the fierce enemy sweeping, facing the defectors, facing hunger and hardship, he did not flinch, did not disappoint, but bravely moved forward.

At that time, my father firmly believed that in the face of the enemy's crazy sweeping, our troops were strong troops, and they were units that could not be dragged down and could not be broken. He held the determination that he must return to the unit and never give up when he could not find the troops, and on the way to find the troops, he always thought about how to lead the lost comrades to find the troops, and he and his comrades-in-arms overcame various difficulties and finally found the troops and went back to fight with the troops.

During the period of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, he always firmly believed that the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression led by the Communist Party would surely achieve victory, and he and many comrades-in-arms persevered with this ideal and conviction and always persisted in the struggle against the enemy without flinching.
