Precious posters for the famous film Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence (aka: Merry Christmas on the Battlefield, released in 1983) directed by the late Japanese director Nagisa Oshima were stolen.
Stolen poster
The 4K restored versions of the films "Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence" (aka: "Happy Christmas on the Battlefield", released in 1983) and "Sensory World" (released in 1976) directed by the late Japanese director Nagisa Oshima will be released in Japan in April. In order to commemorate the release of the film, the film distributors planned a poster exhibition of Nagisa Oshima's works to create momentum for the promotion of the film.
Movie posters
The exhibition of posters of Nagisa Oshima's works (all 12 types) will be held at the Musashinokan in Shinjuku on February 26. It is reported that the posters on display were specially sponsored and loaned by Nagisa Oshima Productions, and are original posters released in countries around the world when "Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence" (aka: "Happy Christmas on the Battlefield", released in 1983) and "Sensory World" (released in 1976) when they were first released. But on the morning of March 15, someone stole a precious poster of five sets of stills from "Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence" (aka: "Merry Christmas on the Battlefield") displayed in a picture frame. The filmmakers stated that there was only one poster in the world, and that the case had been reported to the Shinjuku Police Department on March 16 and was investigated through surveillance footage.
The distributor of the film decided to suspend the exhibition after urgent consultation with the theater, but did not rule out the possibility of continuing the exhibition with reproductions in the future.
