Beijing, April 15 (Xinhua) -- A few days ago, three teams, Zou Zhengsheng, Zhao Jingmin and Xiao Xiaohe of the Fifth Medical Center of the PLA General Hospital, worked together to build a complete diagnosis and treatment system for chronic drug-induced liver injury (chronic DILI) from prediction to treatment, which greatly reduced the recurrence rate of chronic DILI patients.

This achievement is a new breakthrough in the clinical treatment of chronic DILI after Ji Dong, Zou Zhengsheng and Xiao Xiaohe successfully established the chronic DILI recurrent attack prediction model (BNR-6). At present, the article has been published online in alimentary Pharmacology & Therapeutics, an authoritative international journal in the field of digestive pharmacology and therapeutics.

Data from the Fifth Medical Center of the PLA General Hospital for nearly 20 years show that DILI inpatients have increased year by year, and nearly a quarter of them have relapsed after half a year of cure or improvement, thus progressing to chronic DILI. These patients have long faced the problems of poor conventional treatment, repeated attacks, liver scars and even overwhelmed liver cirrhosis or liver failure, and heavy psychological and financial burdens caused by repeated treatment.

The clinical research team of the Fifth Medical Center of the PLA General Hospital has long been committed to the clinical and basic research of DILI, undertakes the admission and treatment of DILI patients nationwide, has a large number of pathological data to support the pathological research platform, and carries out a variety of DILI-related basic research.

In the early years of clinical treatment experience, the scientific research team found that if the glucocorticoid medication time is too short, the condition is easy to recur, and the dosage is too large, and it is easy to have side effects. After repeated run-ins, they came up with a mature glucocorticoid treatment plan to ensure the best treatment effect and minimal side effects. In 2016, they proposed the first globally recurrent DILI48-week decreasing glucocorticoid regimen (48W-SSR) and conducted a rigorous randomized controlled trial. After years of research and evaluation by many authoritative experts at home and abroad, it was finally confirmed that the treatment plan has significant efficacy and obvious advantages.

This study clearly proposes the clinical type of chronic recurrent DILI for the first time, provides a feasible plan and standard for the standardized treatment of glucocorticoids in the future diagnosis and treatment guidelines, and contributes a replicable and generalizable Chinese solution for the safe, effective and standardized treatment of chronic DILI internationally. In the future, the team will continue to explore the deep mechanism of DILI chronicity and optimize the treatment plan, which is expected to completely solve the pain caused by repeated patients' diseases.
