Ren Jingyue
In October 2015, Mr. Ren Jingyue of Tantou Town "escorted" these two special peonies to Henan University. His narration reveals an untold century of love.
"Raising flowers for decades, bringing these two peonies back to Heda today is the most glorious thing I've ever done in my life!" Ren Jingyue, who has been cultivating flowers for more than 30 years, cut leaves while excitedly telling the legend of him and these two peonies...
In the early summer of 1939, in order to escape the Japanese war, teachers and students of Henan University traveled from Zhenping to Tantou Town. During the Tantou school, the local people gave Heda selfless dedication and care. The best houses were sacrificed, and the grain fields were converted into vegetable fields, so that teachers and students could eat and wear warm, but they themselves were tightly clothed. During the tantou school, teachers and students helped the local government to open two high schools, a junior high school and a national experimental primary school, spread civilization, benefit Sangzi, and compose a beacon fire and talent.

"The Japanese iron hooves trampled on the Central Plains, and the river took refuge in Gutan. The people of the people supported and passed on the culture for five years. This is a poem written by Ren Jingyue when he recalled the scene of running a school in Hedatantou.
"After the river reached Tantou, after consultation with the local government, a flower and vegetable experimental base was built in nandi to cultivate new varieties of flowers and vegetables. My great uncle is a flower lover and flower lover, he often goes to the Nandi base to help, provide tools, build a greenhouse, and over time the same river flower workers have become friends, learn from each other, and exchange skills. Later, the flower worker gave Uncle Da a peony and a yellow moon to show friendship. Ren Jingyue talked about the origin of this peony.
It was this peony that year that became a witness to the love affair between Henan University and Tantou Town for more than several decades, and also became a simple microcosm of Heda's growth in the wind and rain. And the fate of this peony is incomparably bumpy.
In 1944, the Japanese army invaded Tantou, the river was slaughtered, except for the surviving teachers and students, everything was reduced to ashes, and this peony was spared. After Ren Shijun's death, Ren Jingyue transplanted the peonies in his own small garden, carefully served and grew stronger. Although it was damaged several times, wan fortunately the peony retained its intact roots, giving Ren Jingyue the possibility of cultivation.
After more than 80 years of twists and turns, these two peonies returned to Heda, took firm root and thrived. For Ren Jingyue, giving flowers to the river is a wish and a belonging. Nowadays, during the spring flowering season, the peonies on campus bloom and compete for glory.
