Under the agreement, the game development budget will be provided by Rockstar Games, which will be on a scale to Match's AAA games. After Rockstar Games recoups the cost of developing, marketing, and other distribution and distribution of the game, Remedy will receive royalties.

Rockstar Games founder Sam Houser said of working with Remedy again:

We were thrilled when our old friends approached us hoping to remake the original Max Payne series. We're also big fans of Remedy's games, and we can't wait to experience the new version of the game.

Tero Virtala, CEO of Remedy, said:

The Max Payne series has a special place in everyone's heart at Remedy, and we know millions of fans around the world do the same. We're excited to be working with Rockstar Games again to bring the story, action, and atmosphere of the Max Payne series to players in a new way."
