Recently, Chinese and American researchers found a new fossil specimen of the paraodonts mastodont about 120 million years ago in the Rehe biota of Liaoning Province. The researchers said that the specimen is the only genus in the mole family known to date that preserves the skeleton and intact dentition, and provides very rich information for the morphological study of this taxont in terms of complete dentition, mandibular, skull and other structures. In addition, the researchers conducted an in-depth comparative study of the jaw and tooth structures of fossil specimens of the two main taxa of toothed animals, which provided new evidence for understanding the origin and evolution of mammals.
