Wang Jialian Ice Hockey Hope Project Ignites China's Ice Hockey "Tinder" in 18 Years

On March 12, Wang Jialian Ice Hockey Hope Project began to pack 200 boxes of ice hockey protectors, which will be sent to primary and secondary schools in Qiqihar, Jilin, Xinjiang and other places to support the local development of ice hockey. This is another batch of large-scale ice hockey protective equipment donation activities in the 18 years since the establishment of the Wang Jialian Ice Hockey Hope Project in China.

In the past 18 years, the Wang Jialian Ice Hockey Hope Project (hereinafter referred to as the "Ice Hockey Hope Project") has reclaimed, sown and cultivated the mainland ice hockey industry, established 49 ice hockey hope schools, with 60 male and female ice hockey teams, more than 4,000 athletes, and cultivated many talents for the mainland ice hockey industry.

Born in Shanghai in 1944, Wang became a Chinese-American entrepreneur. In April 2000, Wang Jialian acquired the Long Islanders Hockey Club in New York, USA.

"At that time, the mainland ice hockey was in a downturn, with financial difficulties, very few activity venues, and a serious shortage of athletes, resulting in the embarrassment of Chinese ice hockey facing no one to follow." As the chief representative of the Harbin representative office of the Long Islanders Hockey Club in New York, Wang Jinyu said.

Wang Jialian wants to fund the mainland ice hockey movement and cultivate world-class ice hockey players. After many expeditions, he decided to train young ice hockey players.

On December 17, 2004, the Harbin Representative Office of the Long Islanders Hockey Club in New York was established, and the Wang Jialian Hockey Hope Project was established in the mainland.

Wang Jialian has donated more than 40 million yuan to build 49 ice hockey hope schools, and donated more than 2,000 sets of ice hockey equipment such as ice hockey protectors and ice hockey bibliographs to China.

"At that time, a set of ice hockey protectors was a few thousand yuan, which was close to the 'sky-high price' for ordinary families in the mainland, which limited the development and popularization of ice hockey." Wang Jinyu said.

When batches of new protective gear were distributed to the mainland's ice hockey hope schools, a retired ice hockey player in his 50s burst into tears when he saw the new protective gear, he said: "We used to play ice hockey, the protective gear was worn by batches of athletes, the seams were patched and worn, and I was very excited to see so many new protective gear for the first time in my life. ”

The Wang Jialian Hockey Hope Project has cultivated more than 4,000 ice hockey players.

The Ice Hockey Hope Project has repeatedly invited ice hockey experts and coaches from the United States and Canada to serve as the head coach of the mainland women's ice hockey team and teach and train the coaches of the Ice Hockey Hope School. The project also purchased and translated ice hockey training materials suitable for Chinese teenagers from Canada and donated them to the Mainland National Winter Management Center, colleges and universities, sports departments and Wang Jialian Ice Hockey Hope School, filling the gap of no ice hockey teaching materials in mainland China.

Over the years, in order to exercise and improve the children's level of ice hockey, the Ice Hockey Hope Project participates in various primary and secondary school competitions held throughout China every year in addition to participating in normal training. In the Ice Hockey Hope Project system, there are also primary school students promotion and relegation grand prix, middle school students' friendly tournaments, and youth women's ice hockey tournaments every year.

The Ice Hockey Hope Project also arranged for Chinese ice hockey players to go to the United States 11 times, Russia, South Korea and other places to participate in international ice hockey competitions, so that young ice hockey players from the mainland and young athletes from advanced countries in the world can compete in the same field, learn and exchange, and create a precedent for small ice hockey players to go to the world to participate in international competitions.

In 2017, 23 of the first 24-man rosters selected by the mainland national ice hockey team were trained by the Wang Jialian Hockey Hope School. The mainland youth ice hockey team has repeatedly traveled to the United States to participate in the International Junior Ice Hockey Invitational Tournament, and has entered the top three of the competition three times. Among the mainland ice hockey teams participating in the Beijing Winter Olympics, 4 male athletes and 7 female athletes are from the Wang Jialian Ice Hockey Hope School.

In October 2018, Wang Jialian died of illness. This year, the Harbin Representative Office, the representative office of the Long IslandErs Ice Hockey Club in New York, will also complete its historical mission and is now making every effort to carry out the aftermath work - the determined events will be held as scheduled, and the ice hockey Hope Elementary School will be equipped with goalkeeper protectors.

"The 'tinder' has been ignited, the continent ice hockey is spreading, and we have fulfilled our mission." Wang Jinyu said.
