As the 2021/22 Premier League season draws to a close, we analysed and compared the four main golden boot contenders.
Salah (Liverpool): 20 goals
Salah is sure to be seen as a favourite and he is expected to win the Premier League Golden Boot for the third time, and the Egyptian striker has been very efficient.
Salah has scored more efficiently than the last two seasons, scoring one goal per 113 minutes.
Although Salah scored five penalties, he scored 22 minutes faster per goal than Jota.
Salah scored 22 goals in the Premier League last season and his shot conversion rate is actually lower this season than last season, but he has more shots in the opposition box.
Liverpool's performance this season has improved significantly compared to last season, and they have been more efficient in tearing apart the opponent's defence, so Salah can get better chances to score goals in front of goal. Salah has scored more goals this season from 8 yards from goal than last season.
Salah is the most scoring player (6 goals) in the Premier League this season since advancing with the ball, including a wonderful one-shot goal against Manchester City and Watford.

Based on the quality of the goal chances and the position of the shot within the frame of the goal, Opta's expected shot on target stats assessed the likelihood of a shot on target to end up scoring, and Salah's expected shot on goal stats were enough to prove his offensive threat.
Salah's expected shots per 90 minutes were 0.82 goals, far ahead of the other contenders for the Golden Boot.
It would be very surprising if Salah hadn't won the Golden Boot at the end of the season in the Premier League.

Jota (Liverpool): 13 goals
Although nine Liverpool players have more time in the Premier League than Jota, he is still tied for second place in the top scorers list with 13 goals in 26 league games.
After joining Liverpool, Jota has honed his ability to catch goals, with 10 of his 13 league goals being directly touched between 2 and 9 yards in front of goal.
Jota has also scored three headers in the Premier League this season, and in his first five months with Liverpool last season, Jota also scored three headers in the Premier League.

If there are players who will compete with Salah for the Premier League Golden Boot in the final stages, Kane looks like he will be the most likely contender to get close to him.
