Golden Boot Scramble

As the 2021/22 Premier League season draws to a close, we analysed and compared the four main golden boot contenders.

Salah (Liverpool): 20 goals

Golden Boot battle, is Salah stable?

Salah is sure to be seen as a favourite and he is expected to win the Premier League Golden Boot for the third time, and the Egyptian striker has been very efficient.

Salah has scored more efficiently than the last two seasons, scoring one goal per 113 minutes.

Although Salah scored five penalties, he scored 22 minutes faster per goal than Jota.

Golden Boot battle, is Salah stable?

Salah scored 22 goals in the Premier League last season and his shot conversion rate is actually lower this season than last season, but he has more shots in the opposition box.

Liverpool's performance this season has improved significantly compared to last season, and they have been more efficient in tearing apart the opponent's defence, so Salah can get better chances to score goals in front of goal. Salah has scored more goals this season from 8 yards from goal than last season.

Salah is the most scoring player (6 goals) in the Premier League this season since advancing with the ball, including a wonderful one-shot goal against Manchester City and Watford.

Judging by the quality of his scoring chances and his ability to finish in front of goal, Salah is undoubtedly the most threatening striker in the Premier League.

Based on the quality of the goal chances and the position of the shot within the frame of the goal, Opta's expected shot on target stats assessed the likelihood of a shot on target to end up scoring, and Salah's expected shot on goal stats were enough to prove his offensive threat.

Salah's expected shots per 90 minutes were 0.82 goals, far ahead of the other contenders for the Golden Boot.

It would be very surprising if Salah hadn't won the Golden Boot at the end of the season in the Premier League.

Salah's fixtures for April:

Watford (Home), Manchester City (Away), Manchester United (Main), Everton (Main), Newcastle (FC)

Jota (Liverpool): 13 goals

Golden Boot battle, is Salah stable?

Although nine Liverpool players have more time in the Premier League than Jota, he is still tied for second place in the top scorers list with 13 goals in 26 league games.

After joining Liverpool, Jota has honed his ability to catch goals, with 10 of his 13 league goals being directly touched between 2 and 9 yards in front of goal.

Jota has also scored three headers in the Premier League this season, and in his first five months with Liverpool last season, Jota also scored three headers in the Premier League.

Interestingly, Jota scored no header in the 16 Premier League goals scored for Wolves, suggesting that he rarely played as a striker in the box during his time with Wolves.

Jota has a variety of shots, scoring with both his left and right feet, but the Portugal international's shot conversion rate has improved under Klopp. This is partly due to Jota's own progress, but it also has to do with the quality of the scoring opportunities created by his teammates.

Jota feels more like a natural goal-stopper, and thanks to the quality of scoring opportunities created by his teammates, Jota's keen running has allowed him to get more rewards than ever before.

Jota, who has scored every 135.2 minutes in the Premier League this season, is going through a fantastic season.

Jota's April schedule:

Son Heung-min (Tottenham): 13 goals

Among the contenders for this season's Premier League Golden Boot, Son Heung-min is the player with the highest turnover on goal.

Compared to last season's 32.1 percent shot conversion rate, although Son's shot conversion rate this season has dropped to 27.1 percent, he is still the most efficient player competing for the Golden Boot.

Like Jota, Son Heung-min scored 13 goals without a penalty break.

Son Heung-min also played well in the home league, scoring a total of 10 goals. Son heung-min is the player with the most Home Goals in the Premier League this season, accounting for 38% of Tottenham's total home goals. Cristiano Ronaldo scored nine league goals at Old Trafford, which is the same percentage of the team's home goals at United.

Entering the final stages of the game, Son Wasung-min was also extremely threatening, with 8 of the 13 goals coming after 60 minutes. If there is space on the pitch and the game reaches its final stages, it will indeed be very much in line with Tottenham's defensive counter-attack style under Conte, in which case Son Heung-min will cause huge damage to the opponent.

Kane is good at retreating into midfield to connect the team's attack, which can also play to Tottenham's advantage. Kane and Son Heung-min are the most combined goal-scoring duo in Premier League history (39 goals) and he has scored four assists son this season.

Sun Heung-min's Schedule for April:

Newcastle (Main), Villa (Guest), Brighton (Main), Brentford (Guest), Leicester City (Main)

Kane (Tottenham): 12 goals

Golden Boot battle, is Salah stable?

Kane has scored seven goals in his last 7 league games and 11 goals in his last 15 league games, and if you go back in time, you'll see that Kane is making his final assault on the Golden Boot.

Kane looked slow and hot at the start of the season under Nuno, but Conte reinvigorated him. Conte's Tottenham Shift the ball faster, their attacks faster and more intense, allowing Kane to complete a fantastic run.

Kane tends to look for offensive space, and in recent league rounds, Kane has often used world-class running positions to get into the scoring position. Against Leicester City, Everton and Brighton, Kane sprinted behind the opposing defence to receive the ball and then scored from the 1v1 situation.

Kane also often quietly plugged into the scoring area, scoring in this way for Manchester City, Leeds United and Everton.

Golden Boot battle, is Salah stable?

Since Boxing Day last year, Kane has regained the feeling of scoring goals, scoring a total of 10 goals.

In the last 14 league games, Kane has scored almost twice as many goals as in the previous 14 league games, but the shot conversion rate is almost three times that of before Boxing Day.

If there are players who will compete with Salah for the Premier League Golden Boot in the final stages, Kane looks like he will be the most likely contender to get close to him.
