Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min praised Manchester City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega for making a crucial save when the two teams met in midweek.
With City leading 1-0, Son Heung-min shot in the final five minutes but couldn't get the ball past Ortega, who came off the bench to replace the injured Ederson just before 15 minutes. City then scored a second goal and sealed three points to lead Arsenal into the final game of the season in the Premier League title race.
"I'm human too," Son told the Evening Standard when asked about the mistake. 'The goalkeeper made a very good decision to make himself very great. But I have a responsibility not to get such a big opportunity for the team because the team works very hard and tries to get good results. ”
Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou made headlines after the game when he lashed out at the club's 'roots' within 48 hours, with many fans urging their teams to deliberately lose the game purely to prevent Arsenal from winning the title.
"We should understand that this is the first year of the manager and he brings so much positivity and different football," Son continued. 'I know it's too early to say but we have to do better next season because I still believe he can bring so much success to the club.
"I'm giving it my all. I like the way he wants to play. This is the first time I've experienced this. Everybody, the club, the players, the fans, everybody has to step up because we have to show that he can bring success to the club.
'As players, we all want to do our best for the club and for us [against Manchester City]. We don't really care about anything else. We only focus on what's best for us and the team. ”。“ The players, the staff, they've done so much training, so many games, so much travel, we just want to do the best for them. We don't want to do anything else. ”
