300 years of indissoluble relationship, from scratch to revitalize the cymbal drum

In Houniufang Village, the reporter met the fifth generation of the flower cymbal drum inheritor - 77-year-old Mr. Gao Ruchang. Listen to the old man's story of the indissoluble relationship between Niufang Village and the flower cymbal drum for nearly 300 years.

The origin of the flower cymbal drum can be traced back to the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty. At that time, Shanxi was affected by the disaster, and a homeless white-bearded grandfather was exiled to Houniufang Village, and the simple and kind villagers properly placed this grandfather. In order to repay the kindness of the villagers, the grandfather passed on the skill of the flower cymbal drum to the people of the village, Gao And Hao, which also achieved a good story about repaying favors.

In 1957, he won the gold medal of the National Folk Dance Competition and was personally received by Premier Zhou Enlai and Mayor Peng Zhen

On May 1, 1957, the Houniufang Village performance team participated in the tiananmen square parade and square performance with a lineup of 50 large drums and 250 pairs of gongs. At the age of 12, Gao Ruchang and his friends won the gold medal in the National Folk Dance Competition for their performance of the flower cymbal drum, and in March of the same year, to welcome Czechoslovaki Prime Minister William Siroky to China, he was personally received by Premier Zhou Enlai and Mayor Peng Zhen.

Due to historical reasons, the flower cymbal drum gradually withdrew from the stage of the times. Until 1973, the former Changping County Cultural Center was ready to let the flower cymbal drums in Houniufang Village participate in the temple fair held in Beijing that year.

Gao Ruchang recalled: "Hao Weidong in the village, together with several old artists, from the selection of small actors to the purchase of drums and cymbals and costumes, almost everything started from scratch. There were only four old drums on all sides, two of which had large holes. The government gave 5,000 yuan and bought 4 drums. Several old artists in the village took 24 children to perform. Chinese New Year's Eve it was snowing heavily that day, and the children were cold and hungry, and they were all freezing and crying. In the darkness of the night, the villagers braved the heavy snow and waited anxiously at the entrance of the village, waiting for the children to return from the performance. ”

The drum is the soul, and the drummer, like the heavenly soul, wants to be majestic and exuberant, and to be atmospheric. The cymbals are beaten loudly, and the dance should be bright and stretched in a bright rhythm and generous and flowing. I like the cymbal drum too much, afraid it will be lost. ”

According to Liu Wenge, a branch committee member of Houniufang Village, "There is now a female performance team with 60 people in the village, the personnel is relatively fixed, the performance level has been further improved, and often represents the village to participate in various performance activities." ”
