What are the Ten Square Divine Beasts? What do they represent? Elementary school students explore the Forbidden City 'rooftop zoo'

Yangtze River Daily Wuhan client March 25 (reporter Guo Lixia correspondent Xu Yuanyuan) On the afternoon of March 24, the children of the 306th class of the First Primary School of Gangcheng in Qingshan District welcomed experts from the China Architecture Museum. Experts lead children to "walk" into the Forbidden City, explore the mysteries of ancient architecture, and feel the beauty of traditional culture.

Teacher Yuan Ziyi of the museum led the students to "walk" into the Forbidden City through the video, and the students' eyes were immediately attracted by the magnificent and exquisite architecture of the Forbidden City, and soon found today's protagonist on the roof ridge - the Ten Square Divine Beasts in the Forbidden City.

In Teacher Yuan's humorous explanation, the children learned the origin and legend of the phoenix immortals who led the divine beasts and the ten divine beasts. Originally, the roof ridge in the ancient building was made of wood covered with tiles, and the tiles at the front of the eaves had to withstand the downward "thrust" of the tiles of the entire vertical ridge at the upper end, and if there was no protection measure, it was easy to be blown down by the wind. Therefore, people used tile nails to fix the tiles at the front end of the cornice, and gradually formed the image of various sacred beasts in the process of beautifying the nail hats. These sacred beasts not only play a role in beautifying and decorating, but also pin down on people's beautiful meanings of life. For example, riding a phoenix immortal means "Feng Ferocious Hua Ji", and xiè zhì means "fair and just".

The children listened with great interest and memorized the names and orders of the Ten Square Divine Beasts through a passage: "One dragon, two phoenixes, three lions, six pediments of the Pegasus seahorse, suān ní) and nine bullfighters, and finally act like a monkey." Subsequently, Zheng Ziyan, Ma Minghao and other four students competed as representatives of each group to quickly ask questions and answers, and the experts of the museum praised the super memory of the four young players.

In the design competition session of the class, the children used the paintbrushes in their hands to depict the image of the mythical beast in their minds, or mighty, or domineering, or calm, and they also made the mythical beast into a beautiful headdress, wearing a headdress for a funny improvisation.

After the activity, student Li Junyu said happily: "I know what is the roof of the temple, I know that the roof of the temple has a positive ridge, four vertical ridges, four slopes, and I also know how the tiles on the roof are fixed." The ancients really had the wisdom to build so many exquisite buildings, and I wanted to be an architectural designer in the future! ”

Luo Xiaoteng was also excited: "I got to know the Phoenix Immortals and the Ten Divine Beasts on the roof of the Forbidden City, which symbolize people's yearning for a better life." Chinese traditional culture is broad and profound, and our school will hold a New Year poetry meeting every year, which is to allow us to understand and taste traditional culture in classic poetry. ”
