MSI SPATIUM M450 SSD in the product naming continues the consistent style of the series, SPATIUM for the general name of the series, but also laid the core group positioning of the series, for professionals, content creators and gamers and other application groups, while the model numbers in the M450 illustrate the more specific product interface, performance and positioning of the product, using M.2 interface, PCIe 4.0 bus design and entry-level.
In addition, the MSI SPATIUM M450 SSD has three major capacity options, namely 500GB, 1TB and 2TB. This time our evaluation room received the MSI SPATIUM M450 SSD with a capacity of 1TB.
The MSI SPATIUM M450 SSD is not much different from the M3X0 series of the same series, both in the outer packaging and in the design of the SSD itself. The outer packaging still uses black and off-white stripes as the background shading of the outer packaging, and the white MSI word and the Dragon Shield LOGO and the "SPATIUM M450" product model are also presented in gold and white.
The back of the package is also a simple but very structured layout, which is very intuitive to note the specifications of the product, the application technology supported by the SSD and the warranty period, and the specification label of the MSI SPATIUM M450 SSD is also used in a similar design method.
It adopts a blue PCB element substrate, and the front is covered with a black background color with a gradient gold stripe design of the heat dissipation sticker, and the sticker is printed with information such as the series model "SPATIUM M450" and the specification capacity "1TB" in addition to the MSI text LOGO and the dragon shield emblem.
MSI SPATIUM M450 1TB adopts the standard 2280 size specification design, SSD and motherboard connection interface for M.2 interface, can be compatible with most of the current desktop platform boards that provide M.2 interface or some provide support for 2280 installation slots of various notebook platforms. In addition, the MSI SPATIUM M450 series does not have an external thermal module attached, so there is no need to worry about size or thickness issues that will not be installed.
The whole MSI SPATIUM M450 1TB SSD adopts a single-sided PCB component soldering layout design, which can be divided into two functional areas, the main control chip functional area located near the M.2 interface of the SSD, and the memory chip functional area located in the middle of the PCB.
MSI SPATIUM M450 1TB uses the main control chip for The PS5019-E19T of Grouplink, which is a DRAMless design pcIe 4.0 master control chip launched by Grouplink, which can support the NVMe v1.4 protocol and the functions of PCIe 4.0 x4, and is equipped with the 4th generation LDPC & RAID ECC error correction mechanism and built-in HBM support, which can provide a theoretical maximum continuous read speed of 3600MB/s for solid-state drives. The maximum continuous write speed is also up to 3000MB/s and other excellent performance support.
The memory chip function area is equipped with two 3D stacking technology TLC flash memory particles numbered IOBF94AYA, with a single capacity of 512GB, and two of which form a 1TB specification storage capacity.
MSI SPATIUM M450 1TB performance test
The appearance appreciation of MSI SPATIUM M450 1TB SSD has given us a certain understanding of SSDs, but after all, SSD SSDs as storage devices, its actual performance is the core of this product.
Below we install the MSI SPATIUM M450 1TB SSD on the test platform, and through a variety of test software to simulate different application scenarios to understand how the MSI SPATIUM M450 1TB SSD will perform in practical applications.
Using CrystalDiskInfo software to view the hard disk information, we see that the firmware version number of MSI SPATIUM M450 1TB is EJFM32.0, the transmission mode is PCIe 4.0 x4, supportSVM Express 1.4 standard, support S.M.A.R.T, TRIM and VolatileWriteCache function, and the actual usable capacity after formatting the hard disk is 931GB. The overall health of the SSD as well as the specification standards are in line with the product description.
When querying the FLASH ID, the general specification information of the MSI SPATIUM M450 1TB SSD can be meaningfully read, but the particles are newer and there is not too much detailed flash particle information in the query software.
After reviewing the specifications of the MSI SPATIUM M450 1TB SSD, we will test the performance of the SSD and compare the performance of the MSI SPATIUM M450 1TB by comparing the empty disk condition without any storage data and the half-disk state loaded with 50% hddle capacity data.

Through the CrystalDiskMark test software, the SSD is tested for empty disks In the 1GB read and write test, the Seq Q8T1 read speed is 3557.12MB/s, the write speed is 3271.24MB/s, and the 16GB read and write test, the Seq Q8T1 read speed is 3612.76MB/s, and the write speed is 3192.76MB/s. In the half-disk state, the test score of the 16GB level packet is not much different from the empty disk score, and the reading and writing effect is close to that.
On the whole, the read and write performance presented in the two levels of packet test results can be said to achieve nominal performance, after all, the performance differences of other core hardware of the platform have an impact on the read and write speed of the SSD.
ezIOmeter software testing
Similar to CrystalDiskMark, ezIOmeter is also a theoretical read and write speed measurement software, but compared to CrystalDiskMark only presents the final speed results, ezIOmeter test results can see the performance data such as minimum speed, mean speed and maximum speed in the entire test process.
Half disk test status:
In ezIOmeter, it can be seen that MSI SPATIUM M450 1TB in the empty disk state, the average sequential read and write speed is 2990.82 and 3510.23, respectively, the highest speed of read and write performance can reach 5910.37 and 6916.42; and in the half disk state, the average speed of sequential read and write is 2990.19 and 3501.88, the highest speed read and write performance is 5887.2 and 6925.69, and the read and write performance of the empty disk state and the half disk state is basically no difference.
3DMark storage testing
3DMark has now added a new test of storage devices to understand how storage devices perform when used in gaming applications. In the empty disk test state, the MSI SPATIUM M450 1TB scored 2491, the average game bandwidth reached 432.06MB/s, the access time was 73μs, and in the half-disk state, the score was 2288, the average game bandwidth reached 399.53MB/s, and the access time was 80μs.
Comparing the results of the empty disk state and the half disk state, it can be seen that the game operation effect does have a certain impact, but it is worth noting that the MSI SPATIUM M450 1TB score in both states is above the average online score, indicating that the performance of the SSD in the same state is that its performance performance is better than the average performance line formed by multiple device tests of the same type.
PC Mark10 software testing.
In the test PCMark10 applied in the simulated real-world state, in the empty disk state, the MSI SPATIUM M450 1TB test score is 2487, the bandwidth is 306.94MB/s, the average access time is 52μs, and in the half-disk state, the test score is 2493, the bandwidth is 308.34MB/s, and the average storage time is 52μs.
Comparing the two grade data, it can be seen that the performance load pressure on the MSI SPATIUM M450 1TB is lower than that of the gaming application, so the difference in performance data, especially bandwidth and average storage time, does not have much impact, and the MSI SPATIUM M450 1TB can also provide stable read and write performance support.
SLCCache cache test
By using the TxBench test program to test the MSI SPATIUM M450 1TB in raw state, the size of the SLC Cache cache space in the SSD was tested, and the temperature change on the SSD was recorded by HWINFO. After full disk write testing, you can see that the MSI SPATIUM M450 1TB SLC Cache cache space is about 64GB in size, and the write speed outside the slow is about 1262 MB/s.
