A London startup called "Invisible Shield Company" has announced that it has developed a "stealth shield". This "invisible shield" uses a special array of lenses to guide most of the light reflected by the object or person hidden behind it, passing through the surface of the shield from the side and moving left and right beyond the view of the observer, making the object or person behind it "invisible".
So far, the company has developed 25 fully functional shields, and its team is raising money on Kickstarter to develop more shields.
After countless iterations of failures and materials testing, the team successfully developed a durable, scalable and efficient manufacturing process and created what it thought was the best invisible shield ever.
The principle of the invisible shield is simple, the team explains: "Because this lens is vertically oriented, a vertically oriented band of light reflected by a standing or crouching subject, spreading horizontally as it passes through the back of the shield." In contrast, the light reflected from the background is much brighter and much wider, so as it passes through the back of the shield, more light passes through the shield and refracts onto the observer. ”
This means that, from the observer's point of view, the background light is horizontally "smeared" on the shield, blocking the area where the target would normally be visible.
To develop the shield, the team tested lenses of various different shapes at different angles, depths, contours, and separation distances. Finally, the polymer sheets arranged in parallel with the extended version of the emboss lenses were selected. Materials used to make invisible are resistant to UV rays, high temperatures and extremely durable, and they are commonly used in external marking and marine applications.
The team said the shield worked best in a uniform context, such as grass, leaves, sand and sky.
"Backgrounds with clear horizontal lines also work well, either natural features, such as horizons, or artificial features, such as walls, railings, or drawn lines."
You might think that the "invisible shield" is expensive, but it is not.
A small 12x8-inch invisible screen is currently priced at £49 (414 yuan), while a full-size invisible screen 37x25-inch is priced at £299 (2526 yuan). The company has secured 362 non-military orders.
