Prodrive, a relatively unfamiliar name, but if you know aston Martin or dakar Rally very well, you'll know it's an amazing company.
Prodrive is one of the world's largest independent motorsport and vehicle technology service providers, operating Subaru World Rally Teams, Ford, Aston Martin and other racing teams. In terms of cross-country events, brx teams are operated to participate in the Dakar Rally. The car we're talking about today is Prodrive's civilian rally car based on the Dakar rally car BRX Hunter T1+, the Prodrive Hunter.
Hunter's exterior design was designed by Ian Callum, former design director of Jaguar, and the body size is almost the same as that of the Hunter T1+. The length is 4.6m, the wheelbase is 3m, and the body width reaches 2.3m.
As you can see from the name, Hunter is strongly related to Hunter T1+. The car has almost retained the shape of the Hunter T1+ rally car, but has been polished in detail to make the car look more refined and more in line with the civilian aesthetic.
Whether it's bumpers, headlamps, or hood and wheel brow styling, Hunter is perfectly aligned with the Hunter T1+. In terms of tire size, Hunter is slightly smaller than the Hunter T1+, which is equipped with 32-inch off-road tires in the 2021 Dakar Rally, but there were punctures and suspension breaks during the race, so the 37-inch tire was switched to the 2022 Dakar Rally.
Hunter switched to 35-inch tires with double cross-arm suspension at the front and rear, and a suspension travel of 400mm, which is 50mm longer than the Hunter T1+'s 350mm, which also allows it to maintain higher speeds when crossing the desert.
Hunter's interior is completely based on the design of the racing car, and it is more refined after being civilianized. Racing-style seat belts, sports seats, fire suppression systems, and navigation systems are readily available, while retaining the long-handled handbrakes of the car.
In terms of power configuration, hunter is equipped with the same 3.5L V6 twin-turbo engine from Ford as the Hunter T1+. Because there are no race rules, prodrive has adjusted the power of this engine, and the power of the race car is more than 50% higher, the maximum power exceeds 600 horsepower, and the torque is as high as 700 N m.
Prodrive replaced the manual transmission used by the Hunter T1+ with a 6-speed sequential transmission for the Hunter. With three differential locks in front, middle and rear, plus a four-wheel drive system and excellent data approach, pass and go angles, you can conquer almost all terrain.
In addition to excellent power and trapping performance, Hunter is also equipped with a huge fuel tank with a volume of 480L, making it have no endurance even in desert tension. The 8.5J x 172 forged alloy rim and six-piston calipers, as well as the racing ventilation disc, give it excellent braking performance at the same time.
Thanks to its powerful power output and lightweight body, hunter's speed can be accelerated from 0km/h to 100km/h in less than 4 seconds, and its top speed can reach 300km/h on the road. It can be said that it is both a desert weapon and a road car.
At present, Prodrive Hunter has opened pre-sale. The price was as you might expect, very expensive. The price reached 1.25 million pounds, or about 10.44 million yuan. At the same time, there are only 25 cars because they are handmade, and the first car has been booked by Bahrain's Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
In an interview with Autocar, Prodrive Chairman Dave Richards referred to Hunter as a "Ferrari in the Desert." Compared to all-terrain sports cars like the Huracan Sterrato and the Porsche 911 Safari/Dakar, this car is clearly more pure.
