Rose was a significant member of the Knicks' brief revival last season, and having suffered multiple major injuries, he has once again proven himself to still be an effective guard in today's NBA. But Rose's performance this season has not been very good, first of all, he has been absent since December last year because of an ankle injury, and in the 26 games he has participated in, he has averaged only 12 points, 4 assists and 3 rebounds per game, shooting nearly 45% from the field. The Knicks gave Rose a three-year, $43 million contract last summer, when the Knicks wanted Rose to continue his role as veteran leader and second-team scorer, but now he may have lost the trust of Knicks management and it's only a matter of time before he leaves the team.

The Knicks are a team with quite a few young talented players who want to rely on them to succeed in the coming years, which makes Rose's situation on the team a bit awkward. Rose, 33, is one of the team's oldest players and he's definitely not on the Knicks' future plans, which is why he didn't get a long-term contract.
It's not that the Knicks should definitely trade Rose away because he's old, but Rose himself may want to leave the Knicks. With head coach Tom Thibodeau likely to be sacked this summer, the Knicks could be in the rebuilding process, which could be very bad for Rose. Due to Rose's injury and age problems, winning the championship may be what Rose wants to accomplish most at the moment, and the Knicks will certainly not have the strength to compete for the championship in the short term.
