Perkins congratulated his former teammates on Twitter and congratulated James on achieving a historic milestone. Perkins, who has been a big supporter of James, was quick to point out how James' latest achievements should affect James' GOAT status:

Perkins' views have caused widespread controversy, with many believing that Jordan is the greatest basketball player of all time, and even in many mainstream media rankings in the United States, Jordan is pushing James to the top of history.
It's just clear that in Perkins' view he believes Lakers star James can now compete with Jordan for the best honor in history.
Notably, James is now just 1,440 points behind Hall of Fame legend Abdul-Jabbar, who is expected to grab the top spot in the all-time scoring list next season. Once James overtakes Abdul-Jabbar again, perhaps Perkins will be more determined by then, but James' current championship numbers are 4-6 behind Jordan, which is undoubtedly the biggest obstacle to his inability to surpass Jordan.
