How chaotic is South Korean politics? Presidents generally don't fare well, either out of the ordinary world or die of death

author:One more history

According to past experience, the result can be produced the night of the disparity in the number of votes, and if the vote gap is small, the result will be the next morning at the latest.

Judging from the results of the previous vote, the two candidates, Li Zaiming and Yin Xiyue, received equal votes. According to interviews conducted by the South Korean media in advance, this Korean presidential election has not occurred in the past.

Li Zaiming and Yin Xiyue exposed many negative news at the same time, making their national favorability much lower than that of previous candidates.

What is National Favorability? In layman's terms, Lee Jae-ming and Yoon Seok-yue have exposed many negative news, making the South Korean people distrust them. There is no way, always have to pull out the general in the short, so the South Korean people will be displeased and elect a new president who does not look so bad in their hearts.

In fact, there have been many interesting and strange things about the Korean election, and the south Korean president has not been very good. Either the outlaw died in the end of the world, or he was caught in a malpractice case and could not escape the law. So, has the Korean election been as chaotic as this year?

The reason why there are many unexpected situations in this year's South Korean election is not that the media is empty. For example, Song Yong-gi, the leader of South Korea's ruling Common Democratic Party, was bleeding after being hit in the head by an object thrown by an unknown person when he came to Seoul's Village on March 7, 2022 to solicit votes.

After treatment, Song Yongji was not life-threatening. Earlier, two staff members died mysteriously on a bus in the campaign car of the Kuomintang presidential candidate, An Zhexiu.

In short, in the 20th South Korean presidential election, many strange things have happened. Coupled with the fact that the two candidates, Lee Jae-myung and Yoon Seok-wook, have a very low national favorability, which makes the South Korean people fall into a helpless choice.

As we all know, with the epidemic coupled with various factors such as soaring real estate prices, South Korea is currently in an embattled state on domestic and foreign issues. On the one hand, South Korea belongs to the developed countries, but the domestic economy shows a phenomenon of polarization, resulting in serious social divisions.

Coupled with the soaring real estate prices, many Young Koreans choose to "lie flat", and the domestic fertility rate and marriage rate have hit a new low in the calendar year.

Abroad, South Korea is not only dealing with the rapidly changing international order and dealing with its problems with North Korea, but also the climate, energy, and food crises are pouring into South Korea. The South Korean general election in this situation is even more important.

South Koreans hope that after the new president replaces Moon Jae-in, he will quickly revitalize the domestic economy and change the current downturn.

During the election process, Lee Jae-ming and Yoon Seok-yue put forward many policies that favored the people. And the two also proposed a budget of 266 trillion won and 300 trillion won respectively to implement their own policies. It is even possible to increase taxes by raising taxes.

In addition, judging from South Korea's previous presidential elections, it is true that there has not been such chaos as this year. However, in 1997, when South Korea suffered a financial crisis, Kim Dae-jung, a representative of the opposition party, eventually replaced Kim Yong-sam as the new president.

In 2004, then-President Roh Moo-hyun became the first president in South Korean history to pass impeachment by Congress, and opposition leader Lee Myung-bak took office in the election that followed. Including in 2017, Park Geun-hye became the first president to be impeached and removed from office and imprisoned, and the ruling party finally paid the price of going down.

The above three "changes of government and opposition" in South Korea have adopted the same set of "formulas" as this year's South Korean general election. Whenever there is a major crisis in South Korea, people spontaneously "innovate" and choose a new president that they believe can revitalize the country.

Kim Dae-jung, for example, helped the South Korean economy out of the quagmire after he was elected South Korea's 15th president in 1998. He valued Korea's relations with Asian countries and improved relations with Japan and China. Kim Tae-jung adopted a "sunshine policy" on the issue of North Korea and successfully held north-south bilateral talks in 2000.

At the same time, Kim Dae-jung won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2000 and even won the reputation of "Asian Mandela". Arguably, if it weren't for his family's corrupt behavior, Kim Dae-jung would be South Korea's most powerful president in nearly 30 years.

Kim Dae-jung stepped down in 2003 and died of illness in August 2009 at the age of 85.

After Kim Dae-jung stepped down, Roh Moo-hyun was elected the 16th president of South Korea. Roh Moo-hyun can be said to be the successor of Kim Dae-jung, and during his tenure, the South Korean economy has maintained a growth rate of more than 4%, while adhering to the "sunshine policy" promoted by Kim Dae-jung.

In October 2007, Roh Moo-hyun crossed the March 8th Line on foot for talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong-il. In 2009, Roh Moo-hyun was implicated in the "Park Won-mun" incident and chose to fall off a cliff and die.

After Mr. Lee Myung-bak, who succeeded Roh Moo-hyun, stepped down in February 2013, South Korea's first female president, Park Geun-hye, was formally sworn in. Like her father, Park Chung-hee, used an iron fist to crack down on corruption and bribery, increasing South Korea's prestige around the world.

It can be said that Kim Dae-jung and Roh Moo-hyun helped South Korea successfully withstand the Asian financial crisis and the global financial crisis. At the same time, it also allows South Korea to grow against the trend and deal with problems related to its "northern neighbor".

If you think about it, since the South Korean people have played a role in fueling the two "changes of government and opposition", Kim Dae-jung and Roh Moo-hyun have not lived up to expectations. Including the beginning of the female president Park Geun-hye's administration, it also gave the South Korean people great hope. This makes it possible for ordinary South Koreans to hope that a strong new president will change the status quo in the event of a domestic crisis.

Interestingly, since the first president of South Korea, Syngman Rhee, successive Presidents of South Korea have not been very good, which is also often said by the people as the "Blue House Curse".

In addition to laughter, it can be seen from the chaos of the general election in South Korea in the past 30 years that ordinary voters cannot choose the best person who can solve the problem, and can only choose one of the two candidates who is relatively not so bad, which is full of irony.

Because of this, south Korea's general election is more of a formality, with an atmosphere that seems to be warm but full of concerns about the qualifications of the candidates.

For more than 30 years, South Korean voters have been accustomed to choosing relatively less bad candidates for president. But they wonder if the new president can unite the deeply divided South Korean society and solve the internal and external problems facing the South Korean government.

In such elections, there are many democratic drawbacks, resulting in party interests being higher than national interests and group interests higher than the interests of the people. Just like South Korea, it looks like a flowery and prosperous economy, but in fact, its foundation is unstable.
