The level 2 talent requirements are:

Distinguished Professor or Chair Professor of the "Yangtze River Scholars Award Program" of the Ministry of Education, Leading Talent of the "National Special Branch Program", Chief Expert of the National Science and Technology Major Project or the former "973" Program, Chief Expert of the National Key R&D Program or the former "863" Program, Winner of the National Outstanding Youth Science Foundation, Selected by the "Hundred Talents Program" of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Leader of the National Key Discipline, Head of the Key Laboratory, National Natural Science Award, National Science and Technology Progress Award, Winner of the first prize of the National Technological Invention Award (ranked second), second prize winner (ranked first).
