The Burst Drummer: The Languishing Life of an Idealist

I don't know how many people like me once had an idea to learn an instrument, but this idea always stays at the idea stage. Either it is a shallow taste, or it is a halfway to give up, and it is a minority of the minority that can be displayed in front of everyone like a real musician.

The movie "Burst Drummer" made me have a different understanding of music, the so-called "not crazy, not alive" is music! "Burst Drummer" tells the story of a young man who loves music and strives to become a top jazz drummer.

The Burst Drummer: The Languishing Life of an Idealist

Watching this film carefully, I thought it was an inspirational story, but I saw some horror meaning. Regarding the film's awards, in addition to best editing and best picture, it was the best supporting actor J.K. Simmons who won the most awards. Simmons plays Fletcher, the devil coach who drives the protagonist Andrew to the "madness".

The Burst Drummer: The Languishing Life of an Idealist

Andrew has his jazz dream, that is, to become "one of the greatest" in the field of music, he specializes in drummers, after being admitted to the world-renowned conservatory, he did not live a rich college life like a normal college student, the only thing he did was to practice and practice, and in his spare time he would follow his father to the cinema to watch movies, and more time was to do music-related things. In his dormitory, he had posters of his idol's drummers and listened to his idol's music over and over again. To concentrate more on practicing, he even broke up with his girlfriend.

However, such a young man who is not deeply involved in the world and full of dreams meets the devil coach Fletcher, whose perfectionism in music is accurate to the seconds, and the occasional warmth makes Andrew want to push his limits.

In the final concert, Andrew knows he has been used, but ignores Fletcher and begins a "burst show" of his own. Fletcher went from initial contempt to the combined power of the next two to work together perfectly. I don't want to say that this is an inspirational movie, because the price of this inspiration is too high, there are no friends in Andrew's world, only music, and the warm laughter of the last two also makes me a little afraid, maybe Andrew will become a Fletcher-like person next, paranoid about music to be terrible, moody.

The film is an extended version of a short film, which was filmed in 2013. The prologue to the film is not in the image, but in the sound. After a growing drumming sound, the camera turns to a young man who is passionately beating the drum kit. This scene shows us the protagonist's musical talent and passion for playing.

The music and beats are filled with a lot, which is the tone set at the beginning of "Burst Drummer". The film's director and screenwriter, Devon. Chassue invited Dan separately. Levi and Duke. Ellington composed the interludes "Agitate for The True Self" and "Caravan", showing his musical vision. He also knows how to highlight the theme of film, which requires both sweat and talent to create great music.

However, this is still a movie after all. The protagonist Andrew. Neman has listened to idol Buddy countless times. Ritchie's Birdland aspires to be a first-class drummer like him. His desire is the spiritual source of this film. This setting, coupled with the excellent interpretation of the two leading actors, makes the film extremely shocking.

In the 2013 short film, starring Johnny Lee Simmons starred as a young drummer. And in the movie, Mills. Taylor successfully took over the role and made a new interpretation. Resolute young man Andrew. Neiman wanted to get rid of the banal ideas of the masses, including the father who had been teaching and raising him, so he was very demanding of himself. Mills. Taylor vs. Andrew. Neiman's interpretation makes the character charming.

J.K. Simmons, who plays Coach Devil, is in the limelight and attracts a lot of attention. J.K. Simmons gives Terrence Fletcher the character multiple complexities. His performance makes the ending of "Burst Drummer" not so unexpected, but it is interesting.

Tell us what you think about the theme of this movie! Perhaps many people are touched by so many efforts Andrew has made to achieve perfection: the alarm clock at 4 a.m., the bloodied hands that practice drumming, and the persistence of rushing to the game site after a car accident to continue the game. I still have a little fear after reading it, maybe the effort is right, but after excessive effort has even become a pathology, what you pursue is still pure what you want?
