Hebei Baoding petrochemical plant "3•31" slag tank welding operation explosion accident
On March 31, 1984, an explosion occurred in the residual oil tank of the petrochemical plant in Baoding City, Hebei Province, which affected two gasoline tanks with a volume of 1800 m3 at a distance of 20 meters, causing the gasoline tank to explode and catch fire, killing 16 people and seriously injuring 6 people. The direct cause of the accident was: the plant illegally transported residual oil, the oil temperature was too high, a combustible gas was formed in the tank farm, and the employees carried out welding operations in violation of regulations, detonating the flammable gas, resulting in the accident.

The direct cause of the accident was that the nitrification waste stored illegally in the old solid waste warehouse of Tianjiayi Company continued to heat up and led to spontaneous combustion, which in turn caused the nitrification waste to explode.
