Ukraine's military strength 30 years ago at a glance (lite version):

When the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991, newly independent Ukraine established its own armed forces, ukraine inherited an army of about 780,000 people. By 1992, Ukraine had a population of 52,179,200 and a reserve force of 3 million+ people. Let's look at the weapons and equipment inherited by Ukraine.

The ground force is equipped with 6480 tanks, including 2700 T-54/-55 tanks, 200 T-62 tanks, 2100 T-64 tanks, 1000 T-72 tanks, 300 T-80 tanks, 180 PT-76 amphibious tanks, and a total of 3400 tanks of the three generations. A total of 3,686 infantry fighting vehicles were equipped; 8,300 armored personnel carriers; 830 large-caliber towed howitzers (over 120 mm caliber); 1,245 self-propelled guns (including self-propelled mortars); 531 multiple rocket launchers; and 470 large-caliber mortars (over 120 mm caliber).

The air force (including air force and naval aviation) has a total of 645 fighters (including combat trainers), including 255 MiG-29 fighters, 40 Su-27 fighters, both of which are fourth-generation aircraft, in addition to 190 MiG-23 fighters, 80 MiG-25 fighters, and 80 Su-15 fighters. There were 237 bombers, including 20 Tu-160 strategic bombers, 21 Tu-95H strategic bombers, 40 Tu-22 bombers, 81 Tu-26 "backfire" bombers, 40 Tu-16 bombers, and 35 Yak-28 bombers. There are 130 fighter-bombers/attack aircraft, including 60 Su-24s, 30 Su-25s and 40 Su-17s; 87 reconnaissance aircraft; 23 tankers; 23 maritime anti-submarine aircraft; 21 maritime reconnaissance/electronic aircraft; and 783 helicopters, including 245 Mi-24 special armed helicopters.

Most of the equipment inherited by the Ukrainian Navy is obsolete or unusable, including 6 cruisers, 7 destroyers, 26 frigates, 18 submarines, 60 patrol boats (including gunboats, missile boats, etc.), 30 mine warships, 16 amphibious ships, and more than 140 support/auxiliary ships, as well as unbuilt ships such as the Varyag aircraft carrier.

It is also equipped with 2400 surface-to-air missiles, 204 surface-to-surface missiles and 176 intercontinental ballistic missiles (130 SS-19H and 46 SS-24). Nuclear weapons have a total of 1240 strategic nuclear warheads and about 2500 tactical nuclear weapons. In addition, there are more than 7 million small arms (including rifles, pistols, mortars) and more than 2.5 million tons of conventional ammunition.
