Recently, Sony has asked the court to dismiss the first class action lawsuit filed last November, which alleges gender discrimination within the company. Last year, Former Sony IT security analyst Emma Majo sought court approval on behalf of other women who used to work for the company to turn her case into a class action lawsuit. As Axios reported last year, she claimed that "Sony discriminates against female employees in terms of pay and promotion, both female employees and employees identified as female, and makes them accept a predominantly male work culture".
Now, Sony is asking the court to dismiss Majo's class action lawsuit against it, citing a lack of facts to support the claims made in the lawsuit. "Despite the breadth of her lawsuit, Sony categorically denies these allegations because she failed to present facts to support her personal claims or the claims of the broad female class she sought to represent," the lawyer wrote in Sony's court filing.
In addition, Sony wrote in the document that "she failed to identify a single policy, practice or procedure of the SIE that allegedly formed the basis of any broad intentional discrimination or discriminatory effect on women" and that "her widespread alleged harassment was based solely on indictable allegations of ordinary personnel activities." ”
Sony also asked the court to recognize its alleged conflict of interest. Majo's lawsuit seeks to include all the women who work for the SIE. Sony said it would include all of Majo's managers since 2017, all of whom are women. Sony's lawyers say "irreconcilable conflicts of interest" would increase if these managers were included in the lawsuit against Sony.
