Five players who have excelled after leaving Liverpool: the top three scorers are not satisfied with the top stars of Serie A

Under Klopp's leadership, Liverpool are going through one of the most successful periods in history. One of the main reasons for this is the club's excellent functioning in the transfer window, with players such as Van Dijk, Alisson, Mane and Salah all enjoying great success in recent years. In the decade leading up to Klopp's arrival, Liverpool signed a number of outstanding players for Anfield, but most of them acted in a nonchalant manner. That doesn't necessarily mean they're bad players, though, with five players here who didn't have excellent results at Liverpool but succeeded after leaving.

Aspars

It's definitely a situation where a player is simply not suitable for a transfer. Aspars proved himself to be a very good player before and after his move to Liverpool – he scored 177 goals for Celta – but during his time at Liverpool he was unable to adapt to the Premier League. At that time in 2013, the Reds had an elite squad and were close to winning the league title, with Aspass usually trailing behind Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge in the forward position. The language barrier was also considered a problem he faced. After an initial loan spell with Sevilla for a year, he returned to Spain. At Celta, he further established himself as a club hero during his second spell.

Ince

Danny Ings has been plagued by injuries during Liverpool's disastrous three years, scoring just four goals for the Reds in all competitions. It was very unfortunate for both sides as Liverpool lost potential scoring opportunities and Ince felt physically and mentally exhausted. Calling Ins a defeat at Anfield was certainly brutal, but his injury meant he had little influence. Since then, he has found the best form of his career, such as at Southampton, where he became one of the top scorers in the Premier League, before moving to Aston Villa for a huge sum of money.

Luis Alberto

Luis Alberto was a student at the Sevilla Academy and later transferred to Barcelona B. After making an impressive impression during their time at Catalonia, Liverpool decided to buy the young attacking midfielder for £6.8 million. Alberto scored assists in the away win over Tottenham and he had some good moments at the club but found opportunities difficult to come by. Prior to moving to Lazio permanently, he was loaned to Hera Coruña in Malaga. In Serie A, he has found very good form, especially in the 2019-20 season, when he scored 15 assists in the Italian top flight.

Robbie Keane

In the summer of 2008, Robbie Keane moved from Tottenham to Liverpool, completing one of his dream moves. On signing, he said: "I've been a Liverpool fan all my life, back to when I was growing up in Dublin when I was a kid and I always wore a Liverpool shirt on my back. So, it's unbelievable to be here as a Liverpool player now, and there's nothing that makes me happier than that. The Irishman had brilliant moments in his shirt-wearing career with Liverpool, including a brilliant away goal against Arsenal, but that wasn't enough to stop the club from selling him to Tottenham for £8m six months after he signed. Although Keane may not have found the kind of form he had earlier in his career, he still did well at Tottenham and ended up playing brilliantly with Celtic and los Angeles Galaxy.

Bellamy

Bellamy wasn't a loser at Liverpool, but the circumstances meant his time at Anfield ultimately didn't work out. He enjoyed his goal scoring debut and also had his own highlights, such as his goal against Barcelona, followed by his famous golf swing celebrations. In his one season with Liverpool, he ended up scoring just nine goals in 41 games, and he was an unused substitute in the Champions League final against Milan. On the plane home from the final, he criticised Benitez for not letting him play, which ended his time at the club. Prior to joining Manchester City, he had great success at West Ham.
