Seeing Yu Zhen in Shanghai, she had just finished her busy day. Dragging a tired body, he fell to the soft bed of the hotel, and the whole person fell into it and fell asleep immediately——
At that moment, we were fortunate to see Yu Zhen's completely "undefended" side.
I still remember that in the summer of 2020, Yu Zhen came out in "Rap New Generation", surprising all the audiences with a song "She and Her and Her", and the opening chant is still deafening:

She is also whose mother she is
O daughter, o wife, o friend and sister
She and their thoughts
Dreams, freedom, isn't it cute?
In the rap circle dominated by male rappers, this petite female rapper stood on the stage and interpreted touching lyrics with a very penetrating voice, revealing the voices of countless audiences and empathizing with countless women:
Every song of Yu Zhen is supporting girls, speaking for women from a female point of view, and women deserve everything beautiful!
In the perhaps noisy and exhausting real world, thank you for saving me with music.
If everyone is so "beautiful", it would be boring. I love the authenticity and unbridled nature of Chastity!
……
Recently, W8VES Yu Zhen launched a new creation EP "What the Ear Hears", which still hears her unique keen perspective and speculation, as well as abundant original talent.
This is especially rare in the field of Rap Music in China.
W8VES Yu Zhen was interviewed with "Wheat Ripe" with a new song
This time, we approached Yu Zhen and wondered where Yu Zhen's continuous creative energy came from.
How did she do it, incorporating all her energy into her work and giving a voice to each "she"?
Almost instinctively, Yu Zhen has never stopped speaking and thinking about women, about the gender bias in traditional society, from personal choices of hair length, to persistence when menstruation, to unequal treatment in the workplace...
In the past few years, she has also experienced the impact of public opinion from the outside world, looking directly at the fierce turmoil in her heart, but always choosing to face herself honestly.
Referring to the various evaluations of rapper by the outside world, "cool, dragging, and dazzling", Yu Zhen has a clear understanding of "self":
Maybe you've seen me full of energy, you've seen me who is extremely stubborn, you've seen me depressed and sad, you've seen me silly and funny.
On every side is me, an ordinary person, an ordinary person who loves to sing.
W8VES Yu Zhen's new song EP "What the Ear Hears"
The 25-year-old girl, who does not deliberately please the audience and insists on her own style, defines herself as an "ordinary person who loves to sing" and decides to look at herself with a normal heart and not shy away from talking about the past.
Perhaps it is precisely because of this "authenticity" that Yu Zhen can more easily combine her personal experience with rap, such as the beautiful and out-of-the-loop "She and Her and Her", the three women in the song, inspired by the stories of real friends around her.
She sang to Lisa, a doctor who could only tie up her long hair and hide it under her surgical cap: "It's enough for you to make a decision."
Sing to Rita, a translator who wants to prove himself well in the face of family urging marriage: "Don't do it generally to do better, let them see it, want them to be proud."
Sing to Lina, a lawyer who encounters discrimination in the workplace: "Standing here by strength, believing that the law is always fair"
Facts have proved that the creation of true feelings has particularly touched the audience and is also affecting countless women!
A song "She and Her and Her" brought about the touching and shock
We noticed that the name of "Her and Her and Her" is also unique, emphasized by the three "she" words.
Sure enough, Yu Zhen admits that she has felt the gender difference between men and women since she was a child, and dares to question the "rationality" of this difference:
In the elementary school Chinese class, the teacher told everyone that the two boys used "they", the single person next to him, and the girls used "they".
But when men and women are born together, whether there are more boys or more girls, they use "they".
I questioned, but the teacher replied that it was a convention.
As she grew, the more she noticed that this gender inequality was increasing:
At the age of eleven or twelve in junior high school, Xiao Zhen rode the train alone, and encountered the "pervert" who had been squinting at her for five minutes. At that time, he felt that his body was threatened, and Yu Zhen also stared back with his eyes wide open.
On another time, on the train, Yu Zhen was sleeping on the table, and the strange boy who was obviously chatting with her normally during the day suddenly sneaked in to touch her hand...
For these "offenses" that she experienced firsthand, Yu Zhen said with great certainty that each of us girls has experienced these to a greater or lesser extent.
It is true that there may be silence, but silence in no way means that it has not happened. What's more, after experiencing unfair treatment, we are seeing more and more aphasiars. Women who were not "perfect victims" were even "stigmatized" for a time.
I can't tell exactly from what moment it started, and the hidden energy in Yu Zhen's body was slowly pulled out.
In a sense, Yu Zhen's high empathy with the girls has become an inevitability.
In the conversation with Yu Zhen, I found the "crispness" in her personality, but I also found that she was extremely "contradictory".
Just like in her new song "Shi; Shang", Yu Zhen's understanding and attitude towards "fashion".
On the one hand, in her view, fashion is binary.
The German philosopher Zimmer once said:
Fashion is the product of class divisions.
The closer one class gets to the others, the more fanatical the search for imitation and the higher levels yearn for novelty become.
Disadvantaged groups have no role in it and no sense of participation.
But on the other hand, Yu Zhen believes that fashion is another very attractive thing, and this charm is given to it by ourselves: when looking for a way to express ourselves, we feel that we have found ourselves.
For example, two-dimensional, Japanese and other styles are all means by which we can show ourselves.
Through fashion we can find our own happiness again.
Yu Zhen hopes that every girl will not be bound by the so-called fashion trends and "beauty" marketing, and can bravely express herself – I think this is what she wants to say to herself.

Because Yu Zhen herself is a very realistic "contradiction":
Sometimes she is simple and bold, and she always has a momentum in her heart for dreams and pursuits, and she wants to change something urgently;
Sometimes she hesitates and hesitates, in today's society, especially in the entertainment industry Vanity Fair, she admits that she is not a person who can "fully be herself", will compromise with reality, and will also have "appearance anxiety".
Even if I have read books, seen the world, and seen the world, I still feel anxious.
Because everyone grows up telling you, "Thin is beautiful," and you feel the same way.
I was afraid that the camera wouldn't love me anymore, and the audience would not love me.
The contradiction of Yu Zhenshi is the dilemma faced by women in today's society collectively:
While challenging conventions, they will still be affected and constrained by the outside world.
Born as a human being, in fact, everyone is dancing in shackles, no one can really be free to be themselves, for the young Yu Zhen, it is more difficult.
(This anxiety) I may have to spend a lifetime reconciling with myself.
But for now, all I can do is be healthy, and it's good to be healthy.
How to overcome the various anxieties brought about by the outside world, how to learn to reconcile with yourself, and how to accept yourself calmly are the growth issues that everyone has to face.
Fortunately, we and Yu Zhen are on this road and are not alone.
Today, Yu Zhen, as a rapper, an artistic creator and expressor, is still exploring any fresh boundaries, writing the propositions and attitudes of women in the new era with her keen tentacles.
She believes that although the present may not change much, the world is always changed little by little, and she still hopes to break the world's definition by her own strength.
After all, expression is the beginning of all rights.
But you should also know that Yu Zhen's music is by no means limited to female narratives.
Her depth and breadth have long reached our imagination, and it has also subverted the impression of many fans on rap.
After the show, the audience confessed to Zhen's message
That "Guide to Self-Help in The World" is a group that Yu Zhen pays attention to depression, and helps many people out of the emotional trough through music.
She personally changed the stereotype of many niche, marginalized groups, tearing off labels and embracing this lovely world together:
Since rap chose me, I will give back with more love.
Of course, she is also shouting for all girls who are eager to move forward, and a song "Unrestrained Love" encourages girls not to be bound by the traditional stereotypes of Wen Jing introverts and to boldly pursue love:
You guys are really great, but don't stop by the sights and sounds of the outside world!
When it comes to the current situation of the hip-hop circle being dominated by men, Yu Zhen also has her own thoughts:
Most of the rap music we hear today is based on elements that men like, such as hardcore rap and old school rap, which are more impactful.
Girls prefer light and cheerful melodic rap, more storylike.
Both Particles and Rush to You prove it
Yu Zhen's outstanding ability to perfectly integrate Rap with melody
Yu Zhen admitted that if more and more women can join this rap circle, there will be a different rap style, and she is very much looking forward to the day when a hundred flowers bloom can come quickly.
And this is also what we hope, hoping that Yu Zhen can be on fire, and one day she can have her own sea of lights;
I hope that she can reconcile with herself earlier, be true and unbridled, and continue to output excellent musical works.
I also hope that each of us can be like Yu Zhen, have unlimited energy, always keep the original intention unchanged in the complicated times, strive to break free from anxiety and shackles, shine in the field we like, and embrace more possibilities in the future!
