Gabe Newell, co-founder of V-Society, revealed in an interview with the latest issue of Edge magazine that the most expensive version of Steam Deck offered by the company, priced at $649.99, with 512 GB of NVMe memory and anti-glare etched glass screen, is by far the most popular. Given that V-Society expects price to be a "key factor" in its success, this is a surprise for V-Society's first foray into portable gaming PCs, but it will certainly be one of the considerations for Steam Deck 2 launch plans.
"This is one of the examples where we're a little bit surprised by what customers tell us," G Fat told Edge, "and they're basically saying, in terms of performance and other things, 'We want a more expensive version.'" You know, that's why we always like to get things out and sell them. Because we can learn a lot from it, and it also helps build our thinking about Deck 2. ”
G Fat said he expects other companies to join and use the software support created by V Society to give Steam Deck more competitors. He also said that in addition to replicating the PC experience in a portable form, the company has interest in expanding the ability to play games with Steam Deck.
It may be a while before we see V's next steps for Steam Deck, but it's safe to say it will always have a place in the handheld gaming space.
