In the process of a handover, he found that the volume of a 25G bus auxiliary fan and the total cylinder was too small, and the design requirements did not meet, there was a hidden danger of vehicle braking, he immediately contacted the manufacturer to deal with, and the post-investigation found that the factory repair unit failed to implement the latest requirements of the State Railway Group during the installation, and the incident was praised by the group company. In order to change the unstable factors of the human control process and ensure that the quality of bus maintenance is foolproof, he took the initiative to set up an innovation group and devoted himself to technological innovation. In just a few years, more than 20 innovative achievements such as "Railway Passenger Car Bogie Assembly Standardization Research", "Automated Bogie Guide Column Positioning Measurement System" and "Bogie Automatic Positioning Assembly Device" have sprung up, which can save about 10 million yuan in production costs every year.
Zhang Dong has been engaged in the preparation and revision of the bus maintenance process of the group company for many years, and participated in the compilation of the 2018 State Railway Group's question bank on the occupational skill specifications for vehicle fitters and the revision of the 2020 State Railway Group bus section repair regulations, providing the latest theoretical basis for bus maintenance and fault handling. In his daily work, he painstakingly studied the technical business, through continuous efforts, to overcome one difficulty after another, master one technology after another, has written the "automated bogie guide column positioning measurement system improvement opinions" and "25K bus common fault analysis and solutions" and other papers, providing solutions to the difficult problems of related bus maintenance ideas and solutions.

He actively participated in the rotation training of segment dynamic car inspectors, bus inspectors, and vehicle fitter skills.
