Everyone needs a museum

The famous French publisher CM (Citadelles & Mazenod) has published a set of blockbuster art books called "The Great Artist".

Since 2018, this series of high-quality books has been successively introduced into China, translated into Chinese, and six books have been published so far. Before the Spring Festival, the full set was finally integrated, and after reading it, I gained a lot and shared it with you.

Four sunflowers cut down van Gogh 1887

Six books have been published: Velázquez, Van Gogh, Caravaggio, Chagall, Seeing Music, and Pre-Raphaelites.

The first four books are devoted to an artist. The authors of each book are very important art historians, and they have sketched the images of four very representative artists in easy-to-understand words based on extremely informative documents and original works.

Velázquez is known as an artist among artists, and this book not only presents the baroque master's life experience from his youth to his death, but also reproduces his paintings nearly complete life with 323 highly reductive color drawings;

Van Gogh: There are too many books on Van Gogh on the market. Starting from a more nuanced perspective, this book uses 300 precious paintings and 210,000 words to present a complete and systematic picture of the life and art of an artist who regards art as his life;

Caravaggio: A detailed study of Caravaggio's writings is rare. This book meticulously collects all 75 of his paintings and 354 parts, and skillfully combines other painters of his time with other artistic disciplines, vividly telling the story of Caravaggio's ups and downs and brilliant artistic career;

Chagall: This is not a biographical work about Chagall. It uses more than 450 high-definition masterpieces in chronological order to show six important stages in Chagall's artistic career and the evolution of his personal style.

Chagall, see music with the Raphaelites

I have roughly written about the above four artists, but when I read these four monographs, I will still be moved by the details of the books and inspired by them. In fact, in addition to the four artist monographs, two books, "Seeing Music" and "Pre-Raphaelites", are also worth recommending.

Seeing Music: This is a book that looks at the evolution of Western music-themed painting from the 16th to the 20th century, written by Dr. Getterrow, a well-known French art historian and musicologist, who uses more than 350 works as a line to carefully sort out the musical themes and their symbolism in paintings. How the artist goes from depicting the surface of the musical object to the expression of the spiritual power of music is also the focus of this book.

Pre-Raphaelites: As an art genre, the popularity of Pre-Raphaelites does not seem to be high enough, but it has had an important impact on the development of French art and contemporary art today, so what is the real Pre-Raphaelites? Read this book for an in-depth look.

Live action

Recommend six books at a time, a short text, it is difficult to summarize the whole picture of the book.

Perhaps, with a set of data, you can more fully understand the weight of "great artists": the books are large in size, all of which are 8 folios, the single book weighs about 6 pounds, and the full set weighs about 40 pounds; the pictures of each book are more than 300 sheets, the original works of the publishing house are actually printed, and the color reproduction is high; the text of each book is between 180,000 and 300,000, and the reading experience is good...
