Four doctors from Changping District Hospital
On February 15, the competition day of the alpine ski women's downhill event, Liu Jiachao, as the medical team on duty that day, waited at the tarmac medical station under Haituo Mountain, and watched the game through the tv broadcast screen. When france's Camille Cerutti, the 7th departure, set off, an accident occurred, and she fell on the ground at the jump point, landing on her back and straight into the parapet net. "There was a piercing scream on the TV, the situation was so urgent that my teammates and I immediately put on our protective suits and got ready, and the time came for us to be needed." Liu Jiachao said.
After an emergency bandage at the scene, about 8 minutes later, the pistori transport doctor transported Seruti to the tarmac medical station via a transfer ship. Liu Jiachao and his teammates immediately conducted an injury examination and judged the injury around the athlete's knee joint in only 5 minutes. After a brief communication with the French team doctor, the staff immediately sent Serutti to the medical station at the bottom of the mountain and sent it to the Yanqing District Hospital by 120 ambulance for further treatment, which took less than 50 minutes.
"Afterwards, the ski doctor from Switzerland gave us feedback that Serutti was in good spirits and that the French team doctors and athletes were happy with our work. The Swiss doctor and our cooperation were also smooth and he was satisfied with the whole rescue handover process. Liu Jiachao said.
Known as the "crown jewel of the Winter Olympics", alpine skiing is one of the most spectacular events of the Winter Olympic Games, but it is also one of the most dangerous events. The venue guaranteed by Liu Jiachao and his colleagues at the Winter Olympics is the National Alpine Ski Center in Haituoshan, Yanqing, with a total length of 2950 meters, the highest point at an altitude of 2198 meters, a vertical drop of 894 meters, and a 3-kilometer track that is not only covered with ice-like snow, but also extremely steep.
However, according to the requirements of the International Snow Federation, once an athlete and staff situation occurs, ski doctors need to reach the injured within 4 minutes to carry out emergency treatment and transfer the injured person away from the field in the shortest possible time. "Although I was not on duty on the slopes when the French runner fell, all the doctors involved in medical protection here had emergency rescue capabilities, so skiing ability was the basis for rescue." Liu Jiachao introduced. In addition to steep slopes and icy snow, ski doctors also carry rescue kits weighing up to 15 kilograms when they rescue, which contain medical equipment such as masks, oxygen cylinders, pelvic belts, oxygen masks, and fracture fixation splints.
This places high demands on ski doctors, whose skiing skills are at a semi-professional level. In order to complete the arduous task, Liu Jiachao and doctors Ma Jun, Wang Dajie and Rong Shaoyuan, who are also from Changping District Hospital, made arduous efforts in the early stage. Since 2018, Liu Jiachao and his teammates have spent at least 4 weeks every winter to attend training at designated locations, and in the process of training, various major injuries and minor injuries are commonplace. "This is my first time as a ski doctor involved in major event support, whether it is emergency treatment or cooperation with doctors from all over the world, the experience accumulated these days is very valuable.
