Dejing Chapter 47 Original Text (Lao Tzu)

Don't go out of the house, know the world; don't peep, see the heavenly way.

It is far away, and its knowledge is small.

It is known that the saints do not do it, do not see it, and do not do it.

Zhuge Bagua Village

Translations and Insights (1 source)

If you don't go out of the gate, you can know the world; if you don't look out the window, you can see the heavenly path running. (Because its own operation and the universe are together)

The farther you go, the less you know. (Because of dependence on external objects and do not perceive themselves)

Therefore, the saints do not go far and know things, do not see with their own eyes, and do not become self-made for things. (Because self-cultivation is fundamental)

Defense with peace as precious

The main thing in this chapter is to observe yourself, to observe your own words and deeds and to know everything in the world, if you are blinded by external objects, then you will lose yourself. The previous chapter said that "contentment is enough", and if you want to be content, the most basic thing is to examine yourself. The ancients looked at the heavens and knew that the operation law of gossip was the basis of the operation of nature, while the saints knew through observation that man's own function functioned the same as nature. Therefore, Lao Tzu wrote these forty-seven chapters, not to tell us not to travel far away, not to contact the outside world, but we need to practice internal skills first, first observe ourselves, then we can better observe and love everything around us.

cell

I don't know if you have noticed, the cell structure of our body, enlarged in fact and the Bagua diagram is very similar, yesterday watched "travel with the book", there is an episode about The Zhuge Bagua Village in Lanxi County, Zhejiang, the structure of this village is very defensive, and the internal planning is to and foremost, the play also tells a story, saying that a thief ran to the Bagua Village to steal, stole things, turned around how to get out, the result was that the villagers "stolen everything". In fact, the human body is the same, the body will not take the initiative to fight the so-called virus, and once there is a virus, the human body will run a fortification to kill the virus.

In addition to such observations in the physiological aspect, it is more important to understand that our human bodies and minds are actually in love with the natural world, and they all take care of each other, and everyone is a small universe, and the operation of the sun, moon, and stars in the universe is the same. Getting up early and lying down late, spring, summer, autumn and winter is not a change in the human body itself, and why is it not a law of change in people's thoughts and feelings?!

As long as we know this truth, we can connect ourselves with nature and everything around us, and we can better live in the way of nature. Let's read the forty-seven chapters again:

Don't go out of the house, know the world; don't peep, see the heavenly way. It is far away, and its knowledge is small. It is known that the saints do not do it, do not see it, and do not do it.

LAWS DIVINE AND HUMAN

Chapter XLVII (translated by Xu Yuanchong)

You may know the outside world

without going out.

You may know the divine law

without looking out of the window.

The farther you go out,

the less you may learn.

Therefore the sage learns all.

Without going far away.

He becomes well-known without looking out,

and accomplishes all without doing anything.
