On February 11, 2022, the Numismatic News website announced the Coin of the Year Awards for the 2022 World Coin Awards, which was awarded to the "Gold of the Pharaohs" commemorative gold coin issued by Austria in 2020.

The "Pharaoh's Gold" commemorative gold coin is the second commemorative coin in the "Magic of Gold" series and also won the Best Gold Coin Award at the World Coin Awards 2022. The coin comes in denominations of 100 euros, a colour of 98.6%, a weight of 15.78 grams, a diameter of 30 mm and a circulation of 20,000 pieces.
The obverse of the coin is a "collage" of ancient Egyptian graphic elements that show the connection of gold to faith: the foreground, from near and far, shows the lotus symbol symbolizing rebirth and the homage of the 18th Dynasty Egyptian pharaoh Amenhotep IV (Akhnatun) to the sun god Atun. The background is a wall covered with holy book texts, pyramids, pharaoh sarcophagusses and "gold" holy book texts. Living in the 14th century BC, Ehnathon implemented the Reformation to establish the sun god Atun as the main god in order to weaken the traditional religious priesthood, but this reform ultimately failed.
The main picture on the back shows Tutankhamun's gold mask, lined with lotus flowers. Tutankhamun was the son of Ekhnatun. In the 1920s, British archaeologist Howard Carter led a team to discover Tutankhamun's tomb in egypt's Valley of the Kings, which shocked the world after the excavation of a variety of gold funerary objects, including Tutankhamun's gold mask.
It is worth mentioning that the designers of the coin are Helmut Andexlinger and Herbert Wähner of the Austrian Mint AG, whose works have won several world coin awards. The Silver Centennial Of the Salzburg Festival, designed by Anderkslinger, also won the Most Artistic Coin award at the World Coin Awards 2022.
