The causes of hair that affect the body can be roughly divided into two categories:

1. Genetic factors

Genes determine the color, thickness, hardness, curvature and density of our hair. Different races, regions, genders and individuals have different hair characteristics. Typically, Europeans generally have thicker hair than Asians. Certain genes can even increase the sensitivity of hair follicles to androgens, resulting in strong body hair.

Therefore, if the girls find that their parents also belong to the "hairy family", then it is likely that they have received a "gift" from them.

2. Endocrine factors

Hormone levels affect the growth of hair.

Body hair has cuì (cuì) hair and coarse hair: the hair is "cold hair", which belongs to fine hairs, usually fine and soft, not colored; Coarse hairs are longer, coarse and pigmented.

Normally, only the eyebrows and eyelashes are coarse before puberty. After puberty begins, androgen-dependent hairs in androgen-dependent areas such as vulva, armpits, and beard growth areas become coarse hairs under androgen action[1].

If there is an abnormality in endocrine regulation and more androgens are secreted, it will stimulate the growth of hair, so that the fine hairs in some parts of the body grow into coarse hairs, and the body hair is abnormally lush.

"High levels of male hormones" or "high sensitivity of hair follicles to androgens" in the body may lead to Hirsutism.

Hirsutism is a disease of hair overgrowth. It is manifested by excessively thick hairs in some parts of the female body, showing a masculine tendency, such as perioral, jaw, sideburns, chest, back, abdomen, and inner thighs.

Sometimes accompanied by other virilizing features, such as thicker voice, baldness, acne, breast reduction, muscle gain, etc.

The most common cause of hirsutism in girls is Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), which accounts for 70% to 80% of girls [2].

This is a chronic endocrine disease common to young women and causes little fairies to become ugly, fat, and even infertile, with a continental incidence of about 5% to 10% [3].

Its etiology and pathogenesis have not yet been determined, one of the reasons is that the endocrine regulation function is abnormal, stimulating the ovaries and adrenal glands to secrete excess androgens.

Common manifestations In addition to hairiness, acne and male baldness caused by excessive androgens, there are also menstrual abnormalities and infertility caused by continuous anovulation;

Some people will also have a reduced sensitivity to insulin and have problems with carbohydrate metabolism;

Obesity is also most common [4], and unlike the pear-shaped obesity of girls in general, girls with high androgens usually have a fuller upper body and abdomen, like an apple.

Therefore, if the girls find that their body hair is more exuberant (especially in the bikini area), and their menstruation is often late or even not coming, and they still love to burst acne on their faces, it is necessary to doubt whether they are "recruited".

In general, the diagnosis can be confirmed by a full physical examination (whether there are high-hung and other high-hung manifestations such as hirsutism and acne), B ultrasound and sex hormones.

The causes of hirsutism are also adrenal tumors, adrenal diseases such as Cushing's syndrome, and ovarian tumors, which may cause excessive androgen production of the adrenal glands and ovaries and lead to increased body hair.

Some medications can also cause hirsutism, such as drugs containing androgens, or drugs that, when taken, can affect the liver's breakdown of androgens and cause excessive accumulation of androgens in the body [1].

It can be assessed by the "Freeman-Garvey Scale". The hair is scored and graded on the 9 parts of the body. Add up the scores to <8 points = normal, 8-15 points = mild hirsutism, and > 15 points out of 15 = moderate/severe hirsutism [2].

(Ferriman-Gallwey scale)

Hormone management: Hirsutism caused by abnormal androgen secretion can be treated by taking birth control pills and anti-androgen drugs. Because the life cycle of the hair follicle is about 6 months, drug therapy generally takes at least 3-6 months to become effective.

Lifestyle: Since mood, diet, sleep, etc. may cause endocrine abnormalities, lifestyle improvement is the most basic treatment. For example, reduce the intake of sugar, especially artificial sweets, appropriate exercise, and reduce staying up late.

Hair removal: Temporarily improves the appearance of hirsutism, which is the most direct and efficient way to do it. Includes shaving, hair removal cream, wax hair removal. If you want to maintain the effect of hair removal for a long time, you can also choose laser hair removal, but the price is relatively expensive.

Leave it alone: fine, soft little hairs, each one of which is biological, showing the vitality of nature. Aesthetics are inherently diverse, if it does not affect physical health, there is no need to be wrapped up in mainstream aesthetics to have to live with the hairy people, do a "happy hairy little cute"!
