What does it mean that the EPS lights on the car are on?
EPS is an abbreviation for Electric-Power-Steering, which is electric power steering system. When the EPS fault light is always on on on the driving instrument, it means that the electronic power steering system is faulty, and it is necessary to use the diagnostic instrument to enter the system to read the fault code and carry out targeted maintenance treatment. EPS control unit has a self-diagnostic function, when the key in the ACC or ON position, the EPS lamp on the instrument will be on for 5 seconds after extinguishing, it means no fault; when the key is in the ACC or ON position, the EPS lamp on the instrument will be on for 5 seconds and still not extinguished, which means that the system is faulty.
For some models, the EPS light does not display letters, but a yellow or red steering wheel icon. And at the same time as the EPS lights are on, the vehicle will also be accompanied by heavy steering, no power, light left and right direction, abnormal sound and other fault phenomena.
What are the reasons for the EPS fault light to be lit?
First, if the vehicle has a power outage, power loss or battery replacement, it is the EPS fault light caused by the loss of data in the steering module.
Solution: Just start the vehicle in place, and kill the steering wheel left and right a few times, and then drive the vehicle for about 30-50km EPS fault lights will be eliminated by themselves. If it still cannot be eliminated, it is necessary to use the diagnostic instrument to enter the EPS system to rematch the data.
The second is caused by the damage of the torque sensor, the sensor will monitor the size and direction of the torque or angle generated by the steering wheel when the driver is steering, and convert the collected signal into a digital signal input control unit, and then the control unit calculates these signals to obtain a torque that is compatible with the driving conditions, and finally issues a command to drive the motor to work. If its internal coil is damaged, it will cause the EPS fault light to light up.
Solution: The fault can be solved by direct replacement, but for the torque transducer integrated inside the steering wheel, the steering machine assembly needs to be replaced to solve the problem.
Third, the internal water inlet of the steering machine, or the corrosion of the wire harness plug, because the steering machine is located under the chassis of the vehicle, and the long-term work is bound to be contaminated with dust, muddy water, etc., resulting in electronic direction fault lights.
Solution: A repair of the damaged steering wheel and harness is required to resolve the failure.
Fourth, the vehicle's ABS sensor is dirty or damaged, and it is also the most common cause of failure, which is because the EPS system will collect part of the data of the ABS system when working, and if the wheel speed sensor is damaged, it will indirectly cause the EPS fault light to be lit.
Solution: The ABS sensor can be removed, the dust or iron filings on it can be cleaned, and then installed in the test car, if it is still on, it means that the ABS sensor is damaged and needs to be replaced to solve it.
