International Court of Arbitration for Sport: Figure skater Vallieva of the Russian Olympic Committee team was allowed to continue to compete

On February 14, the International Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) rejected the appeal of the International Olympic Committee, the World Anti-Doping Agency and other institutions against the Figure Skater Vallieva of the Russian Olympic Committee team, allowing her to continue to participate in the individual competition of the Beijing Winter Olympic Games.

The International Inspection Agency (ITA) announced on the 11th that on December 25, 2021, Vallieva provided test samples to the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) during the 2022 All-Russian Figure Skating Championships, and the test report returned on February 8 showed positive.

Vallieva was subsequently temporarily suspended by the Russian anti-doping agency. On the 9th, after Vallieva questioned the ban, the Russian anti-doping agency decided to lift the temporary ban and allow her to continue to participate in the Winter Olympic Games. The International Skating Federation (ISU) appealed on the 9th, asking the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to reinstate the decision to suspend Vallieva.

Russian political scientist Igor Korotchenko believes that the Vallieva incident may be the result of actions taken by Western intelligence in an anti-Russian hybrid war launched by the United States and its NATO allies. Russian presidential press secretary Peskov said on the 11th that the Kremlin fully supports Valieva.

The Russian Olympic Committee team's 15-year-old figure skater Camilla Vallieva participated in the women's singles free skating competition of the figure skating team competition of the Beijing Winter Olympics on February 7, leading the second-ranked Japanese athlete by more than 30 points with a high score of 178.92, helping the Russian Olympic Committee team to win the first place in the figure skating team competition.
