In 1999, Ge Junbo, the leader of the cardiology teacher team of Zhongshan Hospital, resigned from the post of director of the endovascular ultrasound room of Essen University in Germany and returned to the Department of Cardiology of Zhongshan Hospital. In recent years, under the leadership of Ge Junbo, the team has focused on clinical practical problems, major needs in the field of national health, and ischemic heart disease as the key research direction, and takes this as a breakthrough point to carry out prevention and control research that radiates the entire cardiovascular disease event chain, especially focusing on the basic research, applied basic research and translational medicine research of ischemic myocardial disease.
For a long time, under the leadership of Ge Junbo, the team has been committed to promoting the clinical technology innovation and transformation of scientific research achievements in cardiovascular diseases in mainland China, and has made a series of breakthrough achievements in the fields of intravascular ultrasound research, research and development of new coronary stents, and prevention and treatment of stent restenosis, which has made outstanding contributions to enhancing the international academic status of cardiovascular diseases in mainland China.
In order to promote the overall progress of medical innovation in China, in 2015, Ge Junbo and his team led the establishment of the country's first doctor-based innovation group, the China Cardiovascular Doctor Innovation Club (CCI). At present, the innovation incubation platform has become one of the most influential doctor innovation platforms in China, which has promoted the independent innovation process of cardiovascular medical devices in mainland China.
Ge Junbo also passed on the concept of insisting on innovation to his students, he attaches great importance to originality, and often admonishes students, "Go out to lecture, try to talk about our original things, use our own materials, carry out basic and clinical research with scientific problems in clinical practice, and accept some foreign research conclusions critically."

Although he has several positions and complicated affairs, Ge Junbo still personally demonstrates the basic operation of coronary intervention surgery to the graduate students who come to study in the catheterization room every month, and patiently explains the surgical ideas and key points. At the same time, Ge Junbo attaches great importance to cultivating students' humanistic qualities. He presided over the formulation of the diagnosis and treatment process and protection strategy of cardiovascular disease under the epidemic prevention and control situation, called on students to actively participate in the prevention and control of the epidemic and the research and development of special medical devices, and also used various online channels such as online conferences to publicize and interpret, providing a strong professional guarantee for the scientific prevention and control of the epidemic and precise policies. During the epidemic prevention and control period, Ge Junbo took the lead and organized more than 130 cardiologists in Zhongshan Hospital to consult remotely for free to provide convenience for patient diagnosis and treatment. He used a series of actions to explain to the students what is the responsibility of a healer.
When teaching students, Ge Junbo often emphasizes talking and communicating with the patient's family, starting from the patient's point of view, according to the patient's own situation and the condition of the diseased blood vessels, the treatment plan and surgical instruments that are most conducive to the patient's cardiac function recovery and quality of life improvement are selected. He often admonished his students not to be too utilitarian. "Surgery is not much, in fine, others can not do you can do, this is the real skill, others do five cases, you do ten cases, this is the workload." 」 He also repeatedly advised students that scientific research must seek truth from facts and should not sacrifice the rigor and authenticity of scientific research because of the so-called "high impact factor".
In Ge Junbo's view, nowadays, teachers not only influence students in the academic field, but also have a great influence on students in terms of moral character and other aspects. Just as Ge Junbo's mentor, Academician Chen Haozhu, had a profound impact on him in terms of professional knowledge, scientific thinking and personality charm, today, he is also striving to continue the inheritance of the teacher's tao. Various embryo experiments need to strictly follow the physiological cycle of laboratory animals, so they are also considered by students to be "big experiments" with large time spans and high experimental difficulties in the laboratory. The teachers in charge of embryo micromanipulation experiments in the team are very strict, because these sensitive embryonic materials often show instability in developmental efficiency due to changes in details such as hormone usage, culture conditions, and manipulation methods.
"Everyone has to be extra careful when doing experiments, just like the final exams, the teachers have to go through the process with us in advance, and they must always keep an eye on the details."
