O'Neal said James was in a position to surpass Jordan: LeBron became the all-time scoring queen and would top the top

When LeBron James kicked off his 19th season in the league, the debate was raging over whether he could actually become the greatest player of all time when he retired.

Los Angeles Lakers star Shaquille O'Neal gave his answer, arguing that James is still one step away from the top.

According to O'Neill, the most important thing for James right now is to be the top scorer in history.

"I know what he's doing, the championship is great, but he's trying to overtake Abdul-Jabbar. That's what he's doing, and I know what he's doing. Because now if you overtake Karim, it doesn't matter who the best player ever is. Thoughts? I saw that he needed to get an average of 25 points over the next few years and he would do it. He could have done it in more than two years. ”

Obviously, O'Neal is very confident in James' form, and he believes that James needs to surpass another Lakers star, Jabbar, to reach the top.

After scoring 34 points against the Golden State Warriors, James has a career total of 35,401 points. He's still a long way from Jabbar, who scored 38,378 points in his career. James is currently in third place behind Utah Jazz star Carl Malone (36928).
