The reason for a meeting to create "Southern Overseas Chinese Love"
The commemorative meeting mentioned by Li Gaolan is a commemorative meeting held in April 2009 for overseas Chinese from Hainan to return to China to resist Japan.
"It has been decades since the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, there should be few surviving nanqiao mechanics, and their sons and daughters are also old, so we must hurry to dig up and spread it, and photograph the descendants of these heroes." Li Gaolan, a member of the Hainan Writers Association and a native writer in Hainan, keenly captured this theme.

She said that during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the Nanqiao mechanics gave up their beautiful life in Nanyang and resolutely returned to China to support the War of Resistance for the sake of the country and the nation.
In 2010, when Li Gaolan was sorting out and publishing a reportage of "Qionghai Celebrity Style", he found that the heroic deeds of Wang Yunfeng, a nanqiao mechanic from Qionghai, were very typical. Subsequently, she searched for more than a dozen Nanqiao mechanics and their children, and learned that more than 200 of the more than 800 Qiongqiao mechanics in Hainan were from Qionghai.
After further reviewing relevant historical materials and film and television materials, Li Gaolan also found that in that special historical material of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, no one in nanqiao had spread their deeds through the form of opera.
Death and rebirth, sorrow and joy, southern conquest and northern war... Wang Yunfeng's deeds are legendary and dramatic. These historical facts are very suitable for making a drama, and the love of the couple and the story of the common suffering of the motherland can be used as an entry point.
After this idea arose, Li Gaolan began to write the script, and after writing it, she asked Kong Charter, the original director of the State-owned Bayi General Field in Hainan Province, to proofread the text. During this period, Kong Charter was also deeply moved by Wang Yunfeng's deeds, and the two hit it off and wanted to complete the writing of the script together.
However, Li and Kong, one is that they have no stage performance experience, and the other is that they cannot sing Qiong opera. As soon as the news that the two were going to write this script came out, there was immediately a cold word from the outside world.
Twice I wanted to give up writing a script that I had been writing for 10 years
"I started writing in 2010 and wrote it on and off for 10 years, and the draft scripts printed at my own expense were piled up to about 2 meters high." Li Gaolan said that this script was written for ten years, and at the end of the writing, he did not have the confidence to write it, and he wanted to give up. It was not until 2020, when Kong Charter took the manuscript and found Qian Hantang, known as the "Ancestor of Qiong Opera", and Feng Suoqing, a professional screenwriter of Hainan Qiong Theater, for advice, that the script took a turn for the better.
Under the careful guidance of Qian and Feng, the two changed the draft several times, but the script still lacked a sense of stage.
After being introduced by others, Li Gaolan got acquainted with Xu Shujing, the lead actor, screenwriter and director of the Ding'an County Qiong Opera Troupe, and after Xu read the script, he also proposed corresponding amendments, and at the same time recommended the "post-80s" young directors of the Hainan Provincial Art School for them, and wanted to strive for a breakthrough in the form of expression.

"When the enemy planes came, the hero burned his clothes and shouted at the enemy planes, 'Fire at me,' and such a performance would expose the entire convoy." In the discussion with the young director, Li Gaolan did not agree with the young director's revision of the historical facts. The script has been delayed in finalizing.
Finally, under the careful guidance of Qian Hantang, Feng Suoqing and others, the script was finalized at the end of 2020 and approved at the Meeting of the CPPCC Qionghai Municipal Committee in January 2021. But after waiting for a while, there was no news of the rehearsal, and li Gaolan accidentally broke his foot last year, and the rehearsal was even far away. At this time, Kong Charter also wanted to give up.
"Many red themes from Qionghai, such as the opera of "Ancestral Sea", were adapted by the Ding'an Qiong Troupe and performed in one fell swoop. As a Qionghai person, we must let the play "Southern Overseas Chinese Love" be staged. "Li Gaolan is firm and confident. In the end, she took out her pension as a rehearsal fund, bent on bringing the sad and joyful clutch between Wang Yunfeng, a hero of Qiong's southern overseas Chinese and hero of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, and his wife, who is known as the "modern MengJiang woman", on the stage and passed on.
On February 11, 2022, the rehearsal of "Southern Overseas Chinese" was launched, and it was not far from the official performance. The Qiong drama "Southern Overseas Chinese Love", which they have been writing for 10 years, will also be performed in March this year on the occasion of commemorating the 83rd anniversary of the return of Hainan Nanqiao mechanics to the Anti-Japanese War.
